These latest screens forGod of War III— released as part of Sony’s media blast forgamescom— aren’t as bloody as we might have expected. But this isn’t upsetting. In fact, they’re relatively tame compared to some of the decapitation and entrail-removal we’ve seen. But it’s hard to argue that screens featuring Kratos firing a flaming bow and arrow at some sort of knife-wielding hell beast aren’t totally bad ass. Because, just… wow?...

John Carmack and Warren Spector may have more history behind them, but no Texas game developer throws a party like Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford. Pitchford said the game will have dramatic moments, but, judging from the footage shown, it seems the game is placing an emphasis on slapstick comedy, bright visuals and comedic one-liners — some of which are written by ex-Destructoid editor Anthony Burch. Between jetpack-strapped nazis and tomahawk-wielding soldiers, the game’s character design is very reminiscent of the wacky, cartoon-like Borderlands cast of heroes and villains....

Yesterday, Square Enix announced a new shooter,Gun Loco. Set on a planet reserved entirely for criminals with no guards and no laws, it’s a violent romp of lunacy and over-the-top gunfire, and this debut trailer makes it look absolutely bonkers. The game’s due out next year and I have a feeling it’s going to be one to watch. It definitely looks like my cup of tea, and if you throw in some compelling multiplayer and possible character customization, I’ll be all over this bitch....
One of the saddest things to come out of the Clinton administration, from my perspective, was the mass erosion of consumer rights known as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Hailed as a victory by the entertainment industry upon its passage in 1998, it made it illegal to circumvent the digital rights management (DRM) schemes developed to protect the property of copyright holders. And, in the process, effectively proved that we, as users of media, don’t have any right whatsoever to use the data that makes up our films, music and games in any manner other than that deemed appropriate by the companies which own them....
Even though it’s still not even close to November 30 yet, Bungie is already pulling out a trailer for the impending Noble Map Pack. Fair warning: if the series’ main theme has been known to pump you the eff up, do not watch this yet. Adding multiplayer to a game that is primarily known for the single-player experience is always a finicky deal. Take a look atMetroid Prime 2: Echoes, orBioShock 2. While both of these titles were able to bring solid gameplay opportunities, the multiplayer just never quite meshed with the rest of the franchise. Fun, sure, but not quite up to par. That is a very serious possibility withDead Space 2‘s brand new multiplayer mode....
I wantDark Soulsso badly it makes my penis bleed. Here are some hot new screens of what I’m almost certain will be a fantastic follow up to what is quite possibly my favorite PS3 game,Demon’s Souls. Once again, I need to note how beautiful I think the game looks despite its dark and dreary style. Games like this prove that “grey” graphics do not necessarily have to mean “ugly” graphics, provided that they’re married to a good artistic direction....

Real-time strategy games to me are like crack. I get addicted to them, in a bad way, and I haven’t really touched one since the originalStarCraft. So seeing Relic Entertainment’s latest in theDawn of Warseries was difficult as it looks really, really good. I had one of the developers on the game run me through some of the new things fans can expect, such as the six playable races, the new multiplayer features and more....
