GC 09: God of War III looks so awesome, we nearly passed out

These latest screens forGod of War III— released as part of Sony’s media blast forgamescom— aren’t as bloody as we might have expected. But this isn’t upsetting. In fact, they’re relatively tame compared to some of the decapitation and entrail-removal we’ve seen. But it’s hard to argue that screens featuring Kratos firing a flaming bow and arrow at some sort of knife-wielding hell beast aren’t totally bad ass. Because, just… wow?...

GDC 10: Dan Tabar’s tracksuit

That’s Dan Tabar, one of the guys behindCortex Command. You could talk about day one of the Indie Games Summit as a momentous day where apotentially revolutionary new way of funding gameswas explained, and where indies cemented their financial and artistic importance in the growing games market. And yet, to focus on any of that stuff is to miss the point entirely. The point is,Dan Tabar wore abitchin-ass tracksuitto GDC. During the Q&A section of his talk, Ron Carmel complimented Dan on this tracksuit....

Gearbox Community Day: Pitchford, Duke and 2,000+ fans

John Carmack and Warren Spector may have more history behind them, but no Texas game developer throws a party like Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford. Pitchford said the game will have dramatic moments, but, judging from the footage shown, it seems the game is placing an emphasis on slapstick comedy, bright visuals and comedic one-liners — some of which are written by ex-Destructoid editor Anthony Burch. Between jetpack-strapped nazis and tomahawk-wielding soldiers, the game’s character design is very reminiscent of the wacky, cartoon-like Borderlands cast of heroes and villains....

Gears of War 2 Combustible Map Pack out today, have a free trailer

Aswas announced last night, theGears of War 2Combustible Map Pack is now available on Xbox Live for 800 MS Points. To celebrate, here are some screens and a video (after the jump) for you to look at with your eyes. Looks hot, but I’m not sure if I’ll be downloading this until I know for a fact thatGears 2′s matchmaking problems are going to be fixedproperly. Post-title update, my experiences in the game lobby have only gotten worse — a fact made even more annoying now that griefers have started hosting matches simply to quit them as soon as they’ve started — exploiting both the lack of host migration and the knowledge that it can take over fifteen minutes to get a game started....

Gun Loco looks positively insane

Yesterday, Square Enix announced a new shooter,Gun Loco. Set on a planet reserved entirely for criminals with no guards and no laws, it’s a violent romp of lunacy and over-the-top gunfire, and this debut trailer makes it look absolutely bonkers. The game’s due out next year and I have a feeling it’s going to be one to watch. It definitely looks like my cup of tea, and if you throw in some compelling multiplayer and possible character customization, I’ll be all over this bitch....

Hacking iPhones, games legal in US under DMCA revisions

One of the saddest things to come out of the Clinton administration, from my perspective, was the mass erosion of consumer rights known as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Hailed as a victory by the entertainment industry upon its passage in 1998, it made it illegal to circumvent the digital rights management (DRM) schemes developed to protect the property of copyright holders. And, in the process, effectively proved that we, as users of media, don’t have any right whatsoever to use the data that makes up our films, music and games in any manner other than that deemed appropriate by the companies which own them....

Halo: Reach’s Noble Map Pack looks pretty good

Even though it’s still not even close to November 30 yet, Bungie is already pulling out a trailer for the impending Noble Map Pack. Fair warning: if the series’ main theme has been known to pump you the eff up, do not watch this yet. This $10 downloadable pack includes three maps — Tempest, Anchor 9, and Breakpoint — plus those darned Achievements to fuel the fire of your addiction. There’s 250 points worth of new ones in total, and you can be sure there are more ahead of us....

Hamza almost died so I could get you these Ride to Hell videos

Earlier today you may have heard about Hamza’slife and death experiencein the utter wastleland that is the California desert. Seriously, those ATVs are death traps, but it’ll take more than that to kill Destructoid’s number-one shark.Anyway, along with hiskick-assRide to HellQ&A, we also have these shiny, shiny videos! For some reason, they have no sound in some parts, so Hamza and I had an idea to get super boozed up and record ourselves over the videos while making idiotic drunken motorcycle noises....

Hands-on: Dead Space 2 multiplayer

Adding multiplayer to a game that is primarily known for the single-player experience is always a finicky deal. Take a look atMetroid Prime 2: Echoes, orBioShock 2. While both of these titles were able to bring solid gameplay opportunities, the multiplayer just never quite meshed with the rest of the franchise. Fun, sure, but not quite up to par. That is a very serious possibility withDead Space 2‘s brand new multiplayer mode....

Have some Dark Souls screens to tighten your scrote

I wantDark Soulsso badly it makes my penis bleed. Here are some hot new screens of what I’m almost certain will be a fantastic follow up to what is quite possibly my favorite PS3 game,Demon’s Souls. Once again, I need to note how beautiful I think the game looks despite its dark and dreary style. Games like this prove that “grey” graphics do not necessarily have to mean “ugly” graphics, provided that they’re married to a good artistic direction....

Here’s another batch of Pokemon from Black/White

Thanks as always toCoroCoro— and the ever-vigilant websites like Bulbapedia and Serebii.net — we have got ourselves a look at the latest critters inPokemon Black/White. Obviously, the pigeon-looking guy is the token lame one of this group. Let’s just get that out of the way, alright? But the rest, though … hmm. Either I’m getting really soft, or the rest of the Pokemon designs are pretty solid. Whatever the case may be, Jonathan Holmes seems to agree with me....

Ice-T thinks this Borderlands ‘sh*t is sick’

On October 21, actor/rapper/pimp Ice-T picked up a copy ofBorderlands. Since then, he’s been a bit, shall we say… obsessed. And he’s been telling all 24,000-plus of hisTwitterfollowers. “Just got doneplaying Borderlands4hrs straight,” he writes, “need I say more?” But it doesn’t stop there. Later, he tells his followers that he’s going to play the game again… for an estimated five hours. Later, he updates his progress and proclaims “This sh*t is sick....

Impressions: Dawn of War II: Retribution

Real-time strategy games to me are like crack. I get addicted to them, in a bad way, and I haven’t really touched one since the originalStarCraft. So seeing Relic Entertainment’s latest in theDawn of Warseries was difficult as it looks really, really good. I had one of the developers on the game run me through some of the new things fans can expect, such as the six playable races, the new multiplayer features and more....
