Tonight on Backlog, the ongoing mission to seek out unfinished games and finish them, I will end the conflict surrounding those peskyEndersand theirZonewhere they keepThe 2nd Runner. Look, I’ve been playing a Hideo Kojima game for a week. You’ll pardon me if not all of the screws are as tight as they ought to be.
Since we are at the conclusion of a game, it’s time once again to carve into the living rock a mighty decree. You! Yes, you! You will decide how I spend my evenings in the foreseeable future by selecting from one of these (generally/subjectively) fine games!
Dead Rising: Chop ‘Till You DropDeveloped by TOSE SoftwareReleased February 24th, 2009
I know there is likely to be a chorus of people in the comments shouting down this game. I can hardly blame them. I’ve been none too kind to this Wii entry in theDead Risingseries. But I worry that maybe I did not give the game enough of an opportunity. Jonathan Holmes really likedChop ‘Till You Drop, so I’m perfectly willing to try again if you are.
Spider-Man: Web of ShadowsDeveloped by TreyarchReleased on October 21st, 2008
I really likeSpider-Mangames, even most of the bad ones. The curse of the sandbox is magnified by all the ability orbs crammed throughout New York and I can’t seem to stay on track more than a couple of minutes every time I fire up this game. But swinging through the city is always fantastic fun and I love the way the two costumes work together, so this would be a delightful choice.
Gungrave: OverDoseDeveloped by Ikusabune Co., Ltd.Released on September 15th, 2004
The originalGungravecaught my eye because of its character design by Yasuhiro Nightow. The game which resulted was an button-mashing bulletfest with a story so incomprehensible that it took a 26-episode anime spin-off (and ripping off Sergio Leone) to sort out. And then they went and did it again, adding new playable characters to another disjointed plot line. This one didn’t grab me as hard and there wasn’t enough new in the gameplay to keep me interested. Now that it’s been a few years, perhapsOverDosewill feel fresh.
Mushroom Men: The Spore WarDeveloped by Redfly StudiosReleased on December 2nd, 2008
The idea ofMushroom Menappealed to me right from the beginning. What isn’t there to love about sentient fungi going to war with, well, anything? Formulaic gameplay. But that’s okay, because I could go for a 3D platformer right about now and a even a mediocre one would do just fine. Plus, I want to build weapons out of tiny household objects.
Devil May Cry 4Developed by CapcomReleased on February 5th, 2008
I keep trying to figure out what it was that stopped me playing the lastDevil May Crygame. I know that I wasn’t too keen on Nero as a character but I loved his moves in the game. Ttry as I might, I can’t put my finger on the problem. I likeDevil May Cry. Like a blowjob, even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.
Right then. You tell me in the comments which of these games you would like to see played live and I will play the game which receives the most votes. Get to it, and don’t forget to tune in to Backlog every weeknight at 9pm Pacific onDestructoid’s Justin.tv channel!
