It’s only been a day since we heard abouta possible sequeltoCrackdownafter members of Realtime Worlds left to form Ruffian Games, but we have already got an update on the situation for you.
Realtime Worlds studio manager Colin MacDonaldtold VG247 that“Although to date we haven’t had an offer from Microsoft for theCrackdownsequel rumored, we continue to have ongoing discussions with them.”
On the possibility of the company not reaching an agreement, RTW CEO David Jones said he would “be gutted not to be involved,” but if there was no alternative, he “would want to see it done justice – by an established, renowned developer that had the track record of delivering the quality gaming experienceCrackdownplayers would demand.”
Colin closed by saying he doubts “that Microsoft would harm an otherwise fruitful existing development relationship by gambling on fundingCrackdown 2with a startup on RTW’s doorstep.” For those not in the loop, he is of course referring to Ruffian Games, which now employs “five or six” ex-Realtime Worlds staff.
While there’s undoubtedly another side to this story we aren’t hearing about, I must say I’ll be genuinely surprised ifCrackdown 2doesn’t go to RTW, and not the happy kind of surprised, either.
