Remember our preview ofThe Dark Spire? We said it was pretty badass in a retro, ball-busting way. Since then I’ve spent a lot more time with the dungeon crawling RPG, and have died a lot more times, too. Seriously, you have no idea.

Atlus sends along some new screenshots that show the difference between the “Classic” and “Modern” game modes ofThe Dark Spire. As we’ve said before, you can change the visual modes on the fly, with the Classic mode resembling the wire-framed games of old. Even though the underlying game is the same, the look changes drastically (see image above).

Atlus says in a fan mailer that this “game is, for all intents and purposes, a love letter to those classic first-person dungeon crawlers of old:TITLE OMITTED FOR LEGAL REASONS, TITLE OMITTED FOR LEGAL REASONS, andTITLE OMITTED FOR LEGAL REASONS.”

Ha! We know which ones you’re talking about.

Also be sure tocheck out some of the audio samplesfrom the soundtrack CD that will be included with the game.
