A study by Continental Tyres claims that regular gamers are crappy drivers when compared to those who don’t indulge in our favorite past-time. The poll quizzed 2,000 motorists between the ages of 17 and 39 to reach its conclusions.

The study finds that gamers are twice as likely to take risks, speed, run red lights and make insurance claims following accidents. Gamers who play for more than eight hours a week allegedly get into three times as many accidents. However, gamersaremore likely to pass their driving test first time around, and suffer less prang damage.

“It seems that while gamers develop useful skills and are more confident, they need to apply some balance with a sensible assessment of risk,” warned Continental’s Tim Bailey. “Playing computer driving games means good concentration levels and improved reaction times, however, they can take more risks than non-gaming drivers, possibly due to the lack of real consequences in games.”

Of course, no study can be taken as incontrovertible fact, so what do you think? Has your gaming made you a better or worse driver? Or do you believe that videogames havenoimpact on your vehicular skills?
