Valve has done an excellent job at making us think “Steam” whenever we’re talking about digital distribution, and its service is only getting bigger and better.
The company has put out some rather frightening numbers, such as: year-over-year new user growth of 178% in the last 12 months; 30 million active accounts; 1,200 games; and six million unique players per day.Per day, guys.
Also, Steam’s backend can “run at 400Gps, enough bandwidth to ship a digitized version of the Oxford English Dictionary 92.6 times per second.” Now maybe they can afford to surgically remove that valve from the mascot’s (?) head.
