WhenSplatterhousewasfirst announced, the gamer community exploded with nostalgic delight. The franchise has never been known for quality, but it was gory, absurd, and highly memorable. Being announced on the same day anEarthworm Jimsequel was revealed only made the deal sweeter.
Of course, excitement soon gave way to apathy when the first screens andtrailerrolled in, but I’m still keeping a small torch alight for the game. After all,we now knowthat classic weapons like the 2×4 and the meat cleaver, while a new weapon class system and “weaponized” enemies are being introduced.
Most importantly, however, is that the developer promises a heavy focus on gore, stating that a “very messy good time” is on the cards. The team “latched onto an M rating” and will be taking inspiration from classic 80s horror films.
It sounds like the minds behindSplatterhouseare in the right place, but whether or not that will translate into a good title is unknown. I’m not that demanding when it comes to action games — if a game can provide a robust combat system and plenty of blood, I’m happy. I’m not expecting a great game, but if it can be fun, Namco Bandai has my vote for once.
