Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has laid out the company’s desire to push MMOs in the console space. He specified the PS3 but also had choice words for their upcoming portable: “Sony’s announced the NGP, and if that isn’t a perfect machine for doing MMOs on, then I don’t know what is.”
The focus is not just on any ol’ MMOs but rather free-to-play MMOs. In fact, Sony was able toreleasethe popularFree Realmson the PS3 last week. Is there a future for free console MMOs that only charge for add-ons? Could be. Will the NGP be a key player in that movement? I wouldn’t put it past Sony.
