Ambiguous teases are all the rage in the games industry. It works really well for major publishers launching their marketing campaigns for triple-A titles. I have to question the logic behind making them for downloadable games from relatively unknown studios, however.

Take this tease forSolar Struggle, an upcoming Xbox Live Indie Game. All we have to go on here is the Earth and some spaceships approaching it. Are they a malevolent invasion force? I don’t know and this video isn’t about to tell you. An accompanying press release at least reveals it’s a “2D-space-shooter” with a collection aspect where you can accumulate nine different ships.

But you wouldn’t know any of that from watching this. It’s just not compelling in the least and does not arouse any sort of curiosity out of me. Maybe next time they’ll show us some actual gameplay. I’d hate to have to wait until it comes out later this month to find out more.
