This week marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the Super Nintendo in North America. (According to Nintendo, August 19th is itsofficialbirthday, although some stores didn’t get it in stock until August 23rd, 1991. History is confusing!) To celebrate this momentous occasion, we here at Destructoid are going to offer a variety of Super Nintendo-related content over the next seven days, starting today with this glorious introduction!

Twenty years.

I will never forget the day I got my Super Nintendo, so not only does this milestone make me feel really old, it brings back atonof wonderful memories. I will always remember playingFinal Fantasy IVon Christmas day, surrounded by still-unopened presents and a family that was pleading for me to put down the controller. Nothing will ever top my first playthrough of now legendarySuper Metroid. And who can ever forget walking into a Ghost House and seeing those transparent ghosts for the first time inSuper Mario World?

But I should stop there. I could go on forpagesabout my love for the Super Nintendo. And there is a week’s worth of features to bring you. I will hold back … for now. BUT MY GOD I LOVE THE SUPER NINTENDO AND WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW!
