As we told you a few days ago,Sega pulled the hostess barsout of our localized version of PS3 gameYakuza 3. If you’re anything like me, you were disappointed.
I’m glad that Destructoid readers are a bit more level headed than some other site’s readers. I’m with most of you in saying that a gimped version is better than none at all. And while no one wants to hear that a localized game does not come with 100% of the original content, I’m still glad that Sega took the time to bring this fine videogame to North American and Europe. So, before I drop this hate bomb, I want to say thanks to Sega.
Two days ago, Sega dropped a blog post in an attempt to better clarify the content edits toYakuza 3. The post took care of business first and then ended on a somewhat cheerful and positive note, but I knew from the minute I saw it that this post would be the receptacle for all of the impending hate towards the game’s changes.
I’ve been checking on this postand reading the comments for two days now. As of this morning, the comment count is nearing 450. The overwhelming majority of them are negative. Many commenters say that they’ve canceled their pre-orders. Many more say that they have no intentions to buy now. Others are pleading with Sega to “put it back in.”
I can imagine that Sega is feeling the heat. They have to be. In fact, something’s wrong if they aren’t. While I’m not with the majority opinion of “no buy,” I get where these people are coming from. Half of me hopes that this protesting gets through to Sega, but the other half hopes that this doesn’t end up discouraging the company from bringing over other titles, like…oh, I don’t know…Yakuza 4?
