A document has surfaced which indicates thatEVE Onlinedeveloper CCP is at work on an MMO based in theWorld of Darknesssetting. For those unaware,World of Darknessis a connected series of pen-and-paper role-playing games that breathed new life into the hobby with games such asVampire: The Masquerade,Werewolf: The ApocalypseandMage: The Awakening. This also had the unfortunate side effect of morons in black clothing and tons of make-up making asses of themselves in public.

ThePDFin question, which outlines several of the company’s projects, states that converting theWorld of Darknessto an online, persistant world is their next major project. Of course, the document was produced in July of 2008 and CCP has been placing a greater emphasis onEVE Onlinelately, so it’s impossible to tell if this is still a priority.

It would be perfect for an MMO setting, however. The pen-and-paper games managed to do a decent job integrating complex and drastically different character types into an overall world for a long time before becoming bloated (resulting in a reboot of the series a few years ago). If the MMO version uses the same statistical system, we could have a pretty good game on our hands.

If you’re able to put up with all the goths, that is.
