People reallyshouldn’t look at trademark filings, they only lead to false hope and disappointment. Such is the case with the latest rumortoid bubbling up to the Internet’s surface concerningJet Grind Radio. Sega has recently filed a brand newtrademarkfor the game, leading some to believe that the company has regained its senses and might release a good game.
Certainly a wonderful thought, and the filing using such hopeful language as “downloadable game programs,” “game programs for use with mobile phones,” and “game programs for use with hand-held game machines,” could lead one to reasonably believe that Sega is bringing the Dreamcast game to portable systems or XBLA/PSN. Possible? Very possibly possible, but not assuredly assured.
Companies routinely file trademarks all the time, regardless of whether or not they intend to do anything with them other than sue those who may infringe. It’s more likely that Sega has filed this new trademark simply to stop anyoneelsefrom bringingJet Grind Radioto the Internet or handhelds.
That’s not to say it definitely won’t happen.Jet Grind Radio, by all accounts, would make Sega’s fans happy, and Lord knows that Sega needs to dothatat some point in its existence. Just don’t get your hopestoohigh.
