The Nintendo DS Lite, the second iteration of Nintendo’s popular dual screen handheld, is no more. According to a GameStop internal memo, once they’ve cleared out their stock, that’s it — Nintendo won’t be shipping any more.

“Nintendo doesn’t comment on rumor and speculation,” the publisher told us when we contacted them for confirmation. Maybe they’re on auto-pilot from all thisProject Cafe stuff. We figured an internal memo from one of North America’s largest specialty retailers was pretty solid evidence, but I suppose we’ll go with “rumor” for now.

If this is true, it isn’t surprising considering where we are in the Nintendo handheld’s life cycle. The Nintendo DSi and its bigger brother, the DSi XL, are already firmly entrenched at retail. And I suppose the Nintendo 3DS is kind of a big deal, too.
