I think I’ve written aboutAliensas much asKotaku‘s written aboutDragon Quest IX. I just love acid-filled space rapists with big, phallic heads. That’s why I was bummed whenAliens RPGwas officially canned, andSega’s responsedoesn’t cheer me up, unfortunately.
“At this point, Sega has no plans to move forward with theAliens RPG,” states a Sega spokesman. “TheAliensfranchise offers us so much content to choose from that we feel it important to take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release.
“We plan to continue working with theAliensfranchise and ask fans to be patient and stay tuned for more information about what SEGA has coming out for theAliensseries of games, starting with the upcomingAlien vs. Predatorgame. We are very excited about and focused onAlien vs. Predator, which promises gamers a fantastic single player game and an equally compelling multiplayer experience. We are confident that it provides all the excitement and fun that the Aliens and Predator fans are looking for.”
Well, there you go. Seems like Sega just had so muchAlienscontent coming, and something had to take a hit. With developer Obsidian already working onAlpha Protocol, it just made sense I guess. It’s still a shame, since I’d love to see theAliensfranchise tackle a brand new genre, but it looks like we’ll have to wait. Luckily we haveAvP,Colonial Marinesand the DS spin-off to tide us over.
