Earlier today, it was announced that Sony was offering three of seventeen downloadable games to PSPgo upgraders who registered their older PSPs online. This seemed to hint that Sony would not be offering straight-up UMD-to-digital conversions for PSPgo owners who wanted to transfer their old game collections.

Sony has now admitted that, while it was once evaluating the possibility of conversions, no such offer can be made at this time due to legal reasons.

“We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time,”explains SCEA. Quite what those legal and technical reasons are has not been explained. I think it would have been more honest for Sony to simply say, “We want more of your money if you’re dumb enough to give it to us.”

I was really quite excited for this new PSP, but Sony has done a fantastic, admirable job of killing all hype the machine could’ve had going for it. Sony fanboys, please explain to mewithouthyperbole, strawman arguments or nonsensical trolling, why I should still go ahead and buy a PSPgo. Make a sound, sensible, polite argument for once in your lives. I am listening.
