Valve’sPortal 2is one of ourmost anticipated games of 2011, so I made sure to check out the ten-minute demo that the company was showing off at PAX East. After seeing the demo, which included footage from the single-player campaign featuring J.K. Simmons as Aperture Science founderCave Johnson, I spoke with the game’s Project Lead, Josh Weier, to hear more about Johnson’s significance in the story.
We also touched on a number of other topics: the foundation of the creative spirit that drivesPortal, and the new tools at your disposal inPortal 2; the extent ofSteamworks integrationin the PlayStation 3 version of the game; and the reasoning behind the casting choices for Johnson and Stephen Merchant’s Wheatley (which I was overthinking, apparently).
Portal 2will be out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac on July 29, 2025.
