Microsoft responds to concerns about quality of XNA Community Games

Latelast week we told youthatformer XNA community manager David Weller had some concerns about the quality of the upcomingXbox LIVE Community Gamesservice. His worry was that we would not be able“discern the quality of a game among (ultimately) thousands.” Today a Microsoft representative contacted us to clarify things a bit. They wanted to say a few things about what they are doing to make sure that we’ll have the “best possible experience” when playing Xbox LIVE Community Games....

More Dynasty Warriors 7 DLC coming May 24

Tecmo Koei has announced a new bunch ofDynasty Warriors 7downloadable content, set to release on Xbox Live and PSN (if the Store’s back) on May 24. Likelast time, there’s a mix of maps, costumes and weapons, all available as separate downloads. Here’s the content: Not sure I can justify five bucks for the school uniforms, which is a shame, because that DLC was ludicrous enough to tempt me. The map packs are worth the money, I think, but these costume packs are seriously overshooting....

New Crysis 2 multiplayer trailer brings the gun porn

Crytek has released the second part of itsCrysis 2multiplayer video series, this time detailing the varied arsenal at your disposal. From standard heavy weaponry to firearms that shoot holograms to confuse the enemy, there’s a lot for gun nuts to wank over. The game definitely has my interest and I’m looking forward to seeing the final product. I just hope that Electronic Arts’ recent obsession with taking downCall of Dutyhasn’t affected the game too much....

WhileLipscertainly might not be the end-all, be-all of karaoke or music games, the microphones are damned nice. For one, they’re wireless. They also have a nice weight to them. Overlord II is lording it over these new screens

The best thing is that I getpaidto write headlines like that. Anyway,Overlord IIis a matter of weeks away and I am very excited indeed for the sequel to what was quite possibly my favorite game of 2007. With a more evil Overlord, more effective Minions and of course, seal clubbing, this could very well be my favorite of game of 2009. The new screenshots show out anti-hero sending his cackling army into a variety of locations, which seem a lot more distinct in this sequel....

Overlord Minions sees players as one of four Minions as the are on a special quest on behalf of the Overlord to prevent a Cult from resurrecting a dragon that could threaten the Overlord’s rule. Players will be using the touchscreen to fight enemies and solve the games many puzzles. I had more to say, but I forgot what it was when I read the fact sheet, as it says one of the Minions has a fart dart attack....

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX out this week

My week has officially been made by today’s announcement thatPac-Man Championship Edition DXwill be releasing on Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday. If you don’t know why I’m so enthusiastic about this one, you likely haven’t played the originalPac-Man CEorseen this video. Pac-Man now has bombs, ghosts can form conga lines, and, well, that’s enough for me. There’s more to be excited about, for sure, but I’m good. Still no price yet, although it’s reasonable to expect $10 out of this game....

Pachter: Sony and Nintendo ‘made an error’ with pricing

Videogame analyst and warrior of the north Michael Pachter hasexpressed his dismayat the perceived decline of videogame hardware. Looking at the July 2009 sales figures, Pachter believes that “the manufacturers have made a strategic error by maintaining pricing for too long.” “The Wii remains at its November 2006 launch price of $249.99, and the core PS3 SKU has not seen a price cut since October 2007,” he states. “We think that the negative software trend is less attributable to a weak software line-up, and can only conclude that until consumers are sufficiently interested in buying consoles, it will be difficult for publishers alone to drive sales higher each month....

Patches coming for all versions of Fallout 3, fixes unknown

A Bethesda community manager recently revealed that the company is actively working on a patch for all three versions ofFallout 3. His statement, framed as a response on Bethesda’sofficial message board, was quite vague. He told users, “We [Bethesda] are currently working on a patch for all three platforms. When I’ve got more details, I’ll let everyone know.” That means all of you sitting on a pile of pre-war books and Nuka-Colas that won’t count for mission goals are going to have to wait a bit longer....

PAX East: Valve’s Josh Weier talks Portal 2

Valve’sPortal 2is one of ourmost anticipated games of 2011, so I made sure to check out the ten-minute demo that the company was showing off at PAX East. After seeing the demo, which included footage from the single-player campaign featuring J.K. Simmons as Aperture Science founderCave Johnson, I spoke with the game’s Project Lead, Josh Weier, to hear more about Johnson’s significance in the story. We also touched on a number of other topics: the foundation of the creative spirit that drivesPortal, and the new tools at your disposal inPortal 2; the extent ofSteamworks integrationin the PlayStation 3 version of the game; and the reasoning behind the casting choices for Johnson and Stephen Merchant’s Wheatley (which I was overthinking, apparently)....
