Sony has announced thatKillzone 3is getting a single-player demo on February 9 … if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription. The rest of you can pick it up a little later on February 16. I’ve decided to drop the subtlety (mostly because my PSN account reveals all) and admit I’ve been playingKillzone 3for the past week. I can’t give you any review clues yet, but let’s just say that based onpreviewgameplay, this game is theMOTHER EFFING TITS....
I’ve seenBrinkin action two times — first at E3 earlier this year, later at Penny Arcade Expo. Both times I came away impressed by the game’s big action, gorgeous graphics, and innovative gameplay mechanics for a first-person shooter. While I was looking forward to playing it when the game was set to ship next spring, I’ll have to hang tight. The game hasbeen pushed backto a fall 2010 release. The Bethesda Softworks-publishedBrink— developed by Splash Damage (Quake Wars) — is set to hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC....
Koei Canada’s action racing game,Fatal Inertia, is due out next month. It really does look an awful lot likeWipeout, both in terms of artistic style and the way it plays. From the ranks of those who have downloaded the Xbox Live demo, I’m hearing one or two unfavorable whispers. Some of this footage will be a repeat of what was shown at E3, so if it looks vaguely familiar, there you go. Once again, we’re reminded what an absolute piece of eye candyCrisis 2is. I’m hopeful that Crytek has a better handle on the tech side of development with this sequel, making story and all other major elements able to naturally fall into place. And if it ends up simply being an engaging, thrill-ride-style game, I can live with that too....
Warner Bros. Entertainment and Turbine have announced that they’re making its massively multiplayer online title,The Lord of the Rings Online,free to play. The free to play program will launch this fall, and will allow players to download the game and play for free, but then purchase expansions, quest packs, items and other service “a la carte” from a brand newLOTROStore. Additionally, players can joint a VIP program to get unlimited access to all of the game’s content (including priority server access, 5 character slots, a share bank slot, and monthly points to spend in the store) for one, yet-to-be-announced, price....
Lost Planetis out today, first of all. Second of all, I’m only a few hours into it (for Destructoid’s impression, look for a comprehensive multi-author review in a couple of weeks), and I already detest the human race. The plot basically goes like this: Humans get bored of Earth and leave. Humans land on a planet made almost entirely of ice, where the temperatures are so low that any reasonable species would never set foot there in the first place....
The much-anticipatedMafia IIwill finally be making its way to stores in August and will be available in 3D on PCs. Consoles won’t be getting that extra “D” however, though 2K says it may yet happen. Speaking to CVG, 2K Czech Senior Gameplay Producer Janek Kolar has said that there is a possibility of updating the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions ofMafia IIto support 3D gaming provided that there was enough demand for the feature....
Now when I say “Magicka,” I’m not referencingOblivion— it’s the name of an upcoming action adventure game from Swedish indie developer Arrowhead Game Studios. At first glance, it may not look like much more than a typical point-and-click-to-kill-things game. The dev team is looking to bringMagickato Xbox LIVE Arcade, so I suppose it’s more of a “press buttons and watch things explode into Kibbles ‘n Bits” sort of deal. There seems to be a bit of self-referential humor going on, at least in the game’s debut trailer — “Become immersed in a generic fantasy world” — although, ifThe SimpsonsorEat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazardtaught us anything, it’s that joking about bad game design while implementing said design is not advisable....

This first trailer, while short on gameplay (not so short on annoying narration, though), reminds me of the classicDungeon Keeper, which is definitely not a bad thing....
Okay, I know I am being dramatic — there area lotof great WiiWare games out there (well, notthatmany). But after watching video of one ofMax and the Magic Marker‘s demo levels, you will easily agree that this game deserves as much hyperbole as possible. To be honest, I didn’t even know this game existed until today (thanks, Adam!). It’s a WiiWare puzzle/platformer from small Copenhagen-based indie studioPress Play, and, boy, does it look freakin’ incredible....

According to a round of notifications, the circular keys needed to run Netflix on PS3s are on the way to homes across North America, some coming as early as Friday. Earlier this afternoon, Netflix blasted several alert e-mails to those who signed up to receive the discs which enables the service to work over the PS3. We received a few, and a reader or two have as well, which makes this confirmed....
Easily the biggest release this week belongs toMega Man 9. It blew people’s minds when it was announced and it’s awesome seeing that developers still cater to the retro gamers. Plus it’s a good game and hard as f*ck!Lots of new games out this week.Wario Land: Shake Itactually makes me want to own a Wii,Kirby Super Star Ultrais a must buy for me (even though I own the original), andPureis worth the purchase … once it drops in price....
