Will Wright says the Wii is a toy

Iconic game designer Will Wright has described the Wii as more of a toy than a gaming console, and believes the system should be considered as such. Before you get your torches and pitchforks though, bear in mind that he doesn’t mean that as a bad thing. “I think the Wii is a very unique platform, and that’s kind of its core value,” he explains. “That’s why it’s been so successful — because it’s pretty clearly different than the Xbox or the PlayStation....

Xbox 360 motion sensing remote coming this fall

Boom. PDP is all up in Microsoft’s grill with the Gametrak Freedom wireless motion controller. It’s essentially a Wii remote for the Xbox 360 — something Microsoft has been long-rumored to have in the works. PDP obviously isn’t first-party, but this remote doesn’t look like a slouch.GameSpotrecently got their hands on it and gave all of us taste of what to expect when it hits this fall for around 70 bucks....

You won’t see a Mario game on Facebook anytime soon

Social gaming, and Facebook in particular, were hot topics at Game Developers Conference last week. AsAshley Davis saidafter attending a social gaming presentation, there were a lot of people getting involved in Facebook gaming that you wouldn’t expect to see in that arena. GivenNintendo’s own admittancethat they make “great content for more casual players”, you’d think that they WOULD be a company considering expanding to Facebook. In an interview withIndustry Gamers, Reggie does, in fact, admit that he’s intrigued by the social gaming space, and that he finds micro-transactions to be ‘very interesting’, but he says Nintendo has no interest in putting their franchises on Facebook....

YTMND Thursday: Watch out for the Boo Box!

My favorite is between Not the Boo Box and Ash can’t defeat the Metroid. I’ve told you all time and time again that some of the best videogame YTMNDs are the ones that are usually mashed up with movies. Other than that, it’s an overall solid list. And don’t worry about the Saw IV big twist. Once you understand it, you’ll laugh. What were your favorites?

360 version of Rage will not be ‘altered’ despite having two discs

Yesterday1UPreported that the Xbox 360 version of id Software’s upcoming shooterRagewould have fairly significant changes made to it because of limited disc space. The information stems from lead designer at id, Tim Willits, who told an audience at Austin Game Developers Conference that the Xbox 360 version would have “altered” content that would inhibit the way players experience Rage’s story. Classical musician, avant-garde filmmaker, playwright and philanthropist Fifty “50” Cent may very well be embarking upon his mostdaring project yet— a movie version of THQ’s philosophical videogame odyssey,Saints Row. Archetype on iPhone looks pretty rad

A new online first-person-shooter from Villain,Archetype, hit iTunes today for the humble price of $2.99, with none of the “freemium” bullshit that has plagued some other promising iTunes shooters. Villain is asking a straight three bucks, no questions asked, and it’s possible that it could be worth the cash. This is a game that’s going to rely on support from players, and I’ll be interested to see how it succeeds. Hopefully it does well, as I wouldn’t mind picking this up myself if the community’s there to keep it sustained....

Artist reveals Mirror’s Edge 2, iPhone game coming

The original game may have received a mixed reaction, and all signs point to it not selling stupendously, but theword on the streetis thatMirror’s Edgeis getting a sequel. The first-person parkour ’em up was revealed by DICE senior lighting artist Oscar Carlén on his portfolio. All mention of the game is now gone, but before the evidence was scrubbed, it made mention of Carlén working onBattlefield 3andMirror’s Edge 2. The fact that it was removed could confirm that it’s still in development, since publishers seem quicker to deny a game being made than a game being thrown on the scrapheap....

Demon’s Soulsis one of the best RPGs ever made, that is a fact that cannot be disputed. However, the game’s wonderful quality was unfortunately not carried over into the Deluxe Edition and its strategy guide, which has become quite notorious for fading ink and an inability to survive being taken out of the slipcase. Fortunately for us, Atlus is a lovely publisher and has offered to replace your strategy guide....
