It may or may not have been Nintendo’s intent, but a newer optical drive in some Wii consoles seems to be blocking mod chip functionality. Techtreesays that the new drive makes mod chips useless. They report that the new optical drive revision was found in the Australian Wii model (LAH1098xxxxxx) of the console, but hasn’t been reported anywhere else. Some may remember that this game was originally a Game Boy Advance titleback in 2006. It has been reworked for the PSP, with widescreen gameplay, new visuals and audio. It also sports new missions, more options, unlockable content, multiple endings and more. I can only guess that was the goal with this latest find, a NES Purse. For this mod to be of any value to you, you’d have to first be part of the purse carrying public. And you’d have to be a brave soul. If you are, A LCD screen and two velcroed-on NES controllers let you plunk down your purse for portable gaming action anywhere you are....
Oops! Nokia hasgotten itself into troubleafter releasing a commercial that shows a chap playing NES, SNES and Spectrum games on his mobile phone. The advert boasts about using emulators on Nokia products, with the implication that users can simply download any ROM they like for free, despite the fact it’s not always considered strictly legal. The commercial has been pulled and Nintendo is currently investigating the situation. With the whole legal murkiness surrounding emulation, this is clearly not something Nintendo would want advertised, and Nokia really ought to have known better....
My friend Daniel Hempelman (known in our community blogs asrice cracker) is really into woodworking. So, when coming up with Christmas presents to give the people in our weekly gaming group, he decided pair this hobby with his passion for games and produced these very cool treats. The items he made include a Companion Cube paperweight, a likeness of Pac-Man and some tetromino fridge magnets. There’s some new bad news for all of the game news junkies (I’m with you, guys) out there. Newsweek’sLevel Up blogtells us that the NPD is going to start cutting back on the data they’ve normally openly shared with the non-paying public in the past. From Level Up: For starters, no more hardware sales data. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will of course be free to release their own sales info—and presumably leak that of their competitors, if it’ll make them look good—but we will no longer receive that data from NPD....
