Say What?! Ex-DJ Hero devs form 8linQ

You may remember that back in February Activision took an axe to its stable of rhythm franchises. Regrettably, they also laid off a good number of the folks who had previously worked on those games. It’s never good when a studio takes a hit like that, but it’s definitely nice to hear that some of the those affected have successfully rebounded. Some of the staff at Freestyle Games, the studio behindDJ Hero, have teamed up with Reactify and London’s Metropolis Group to form 8linQ, a mobile games studio with a focus on mobile platforms....

Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack out next week!

Anamanaguchi is the brilliant chiptune band that fills your ears with awesome every time you playScott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game. I’m loving the soundtrack and find myself turning on the game just so I can hear the songs and not even play the game. I won’t have to keep up this stupid way of listening to the music much longer as the 24 track 8-bit rock album will be out on iTunes on August 24....

Scraps: E3 is going to kill someone by the end of the day (7/14/08)

You know who I pity right now? Hamza. He has to write that Daily Hotness post, and I can assure you, it’s not going to be fun. Thankfully, he’s three hours behind me, and so it’s not even 9pm for him. Since I’m about to sign off for the night, here are a few scraps that fell into the doggie bag: There’s still more news to come here on Destructoid, as some of the E3 editors are just getting on their PCs now....

SDCC: This crowd already sucks

Seriously? It’s Preview Night here at Comic-con. That means that only professionals and those with week-long passes were able to show up for tonight’s early look at the show floor. You’d think that this would mean that things would be kind of slow. Wrong. Instead, we were stuck in dense lines, pressed up against walls, and had to elbow our way out of the San Diego convention center to even breathe....

Second trailer for The Life in NBA 09 The Inside tells a basketball-centric tale

After watching the above video, part two of the trailer series for Sony’sNBA 09 The Inside, I may have to eat my harsh words about the title. I’ve beenhating on itbecause of its graphics, but from time to time, we all need a reminder thatgameplayis always of paramount importance, not graphics. And the touted “The Life” mode inNBA 09now has me intrigued. As I’ve mentioned previously, career modes in sports games that focus off the field/court/ice as well as on it aren’t new....

SecuROM comes to Steam via Crysis Warhead

The hated DRM software known as SecuROMis includedas part ofCrysis Warhead‘s Steam release — despite the fact that Steam acts as DRM in its own right. To its credit, Valve clearly notes thatWarheaduses third party DRM and will have limited installations of up to five machines. This is contrary to publisher EA’s usual methods of hiding the use of SecuROM in its products. While Steam is usually trusted to be free of SecuROM — a program criticized for software conflicts, RAM issues and “draconian” restrictions — this isn’t the first time that it’s appeared on Valve’s service....

Silent Hill: Origins demo leaked, Climax says they’re not the origin

An internal demo of the upcoming Silent Hill: Origins title for PSP has been leaked and is currently being downloaded from several torrent sites. UK developer Climax makes it clear that the demo leak did not originate from there. “All I can say is that code did not leak from Climax – 100 per cent guaranteed,” said Climax CEO Karl Jeffery. “The code that is out there is fingerprinted and was supplied solely to Konami for marketing purposes....

Six Flags: Fun Park is creepy like that old guy who keeps eyeballing you

Forget aboutDead SpaceandSilent Hill: Homecoming,Six Flags: Fun Parkfor the Nintendo DS appears to have more horror and more survival than those two games combined. In fact, judging from the screens below, it appears as though this title has the potential to not only be amazingly scary, but also the best theme park simulation ever. In regards to theme park simulation, think of it this way. Upon entrance to a theme park, people pay an exorbitant fee to be able to stand in lines that extend light-years down the pavement while an oppressive sun blisters their skin and bakes their soul....

Sly is sneaky in these new Thieves in Time screenshots

I’m really loving the look ofSly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Sucker Punch really created some awesome looking worlds and endearing characters when it launched the series in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. It’s a bit of a shame the studio is focused what seems to be entirely on the world of Cole McGrathinFamous. Sanzaru Games is now handling theSlyseries — they’re working on this sequel, and helped to develop the high definition remasters of the original....

Sony doesn’t care that PSP-3000 is way cheaper than PSPgo

Sony recently announced a Japanese price drop for the PSP-3000 in what seems to be adedicated effortto undermine its own PSPgo system. Some would say that making a previous PSP model even more appealing than the already-hard-to-justify PSPgo was a stupid move, but Sonydoesn’t care. After all, what’s one more idiotic decision? “That’s fine. We have no intention to stop producing the PSP-3000,” said Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida when asked about the price gap between the two models....
