Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles JP and PAL boxart jumps in through a window

Thanks tothis poston NeoGAF, that gallery below now features the Japanese and European boxart for the upcomingResident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. While the Euro cover sports the traditional Romero-esque slavering hordes of undead, the Japanese edition has a real John Hughes feel to it. Sure, they could have included dozens of desiccated corpses, an army of demonic dogs or even eyeless crowsfiendishly using sticksto unlock your car door only to steal a pack of smokes and the contents of your change holder, but instead they paste a shot of theResident Evilcast above the text and hope none of us think too hard on the fact that this is our generation’sBreakfast Club; a ragtag group of misfits drawn together to survive the horrors ofPaul GleasonAlbert Wesker....

Review: Hydro Thunder Hurricane

How a racing game featuring boats ever became as renowned asHydro ThunderI will never know. Think about it. A designer had the balls to walk up to his boss and say “Okay, I’ve got this great idea. A racer, but with boats.” Well thank god someone at Midway was insane enough to green light the unique take on the racing genre because it brought much joy when it hit the arcades and Sega Dreamcast back in 1999....

Rock Band Mobile? Yep, it’s coming your way

I remember when I saw the previews forRock Band Unplugged, I wasn’t convinced a portable version ofRock Bandwas such a good idea. I had visions of people singing into thir PSPs in inappropriate public locations, but of course the game encourages no such madness. It’s more like a traditional button mashing rhythm game in its portable version, and that’s not such a bad thing. Six screens popped up today fromRock Band Mobile, which you can check out in our gallery....

Scarygirl gets a few more creepy-cute screens

Nathan Jurevicius’Scarygirlflash game has been making the rounds since 2009, has since gotten a graphic novel, and isnow coming to PSN/XBLA. It’s a wonderfully weird idea, and it’s always nice to see independent artists getting their shot at the mainstream market. In case you’re not familiar with the property, you play as the “creepy-cute” Scarygirl, an orphan equipped with a tentacle arm and dressed in pirate garb. Scarygirl is aided by her pals Bunniguru (a kung-fu rabbit) and Blister the giant squid with a visual style that is comparatively off-the-wall....

Scott Pilgrim + ‘River City Ransom-esque’ = SOLD

Here’s the thing, I’ve never read theScott Pilgrimcomic (not sold on the Americanime art style), and I’m not entirely sure the movie is going to be that good. I like theScott Pilgrimconcept (Nerd loves girl, nerd fights girl’s ex-boyfriends using videogame-logic), but I’m not totally convinced it will work in a movie. The one place I am sure it will work is in a videogame, especially since it’s a game byPaul Robertson....

Sengoku Basara screens, here they are, look at them

More screens forSengoku Basara. Here they are. Look at them with your eyes. Let your brain process the date. Fun for all the family. After havingplayed the game at E3, I’m quite looking forward to it. As you all know, I love a good hack n’ slash title, andSengoku Basaraseems to be a massive improvement overDevil Kings. It’s just a shame that the improvement has come after all the cool characters like Nobunaga have died off....

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Wii vs PS2 FIGHT!

A lot of people I know skipped the Wii version ofSilent Hill: Shattered Memoriesand went for the slightly cheaper PS2 port, assuming that the two games would look identical. Turns out that they don’t. In fact, the PS2 version looks like it’s missing a lot, to the point where I’m not even sure it’s complete. As you can see in the above video, the first enemy in the game, the one that’s supposed to send Harry tumbling down a road of madness and horror, doesn’t even bother to show up in the PS2 game....

Sony: PS3 price cut for U.S. only

It seems like only gamers in the United States will benefit from Sony’s recentprice dropto $499 for the 60gb model of the PlayStation 3. My apologies to our worldwide readers. While Sony may not love you, we still do. Feel free to throw out the obligatory ‘we didn’t want one anyway’ posts. Bloomberg reports that although the U.S. saw a 17 percent price cut for the PS3, Sony has no plans to discount in the console in Asia or Europe....

Soul Calibur Legends coming to the Wii

The good news is that the upcoming Wii title,Soul Calibur Legends, is not a collectible card game. The bad news is … well, there really isn’t that much bad news! Based on thedetails over at 1up,Soul Calibur Legends(a third person action adventure) looks like it could be a shining beacon of hope on an unfortunately short list of compelling Wii titles (don’t hit me). While not much is known about the storyline, Namco Bandai has indicated that, while Seigfried will be a major player, old favorites and “new faces” will be playable....

Splatterhouse promises a ‘very messy good time’

WhenSplatterhousewasfirst announced, the gamer community exploded with nostalgic delight. The franchise has never been known for quality, but it was gory, absurd, and highly memorable. Being announced on the same day anEarthworm Jimsequel was revealed only made the deal sweeter. Of course, excitement soon gave way to apathy when the first screens andtrailerrolled in, but I’m still keeping a small torch alight for the game. After all,we now knowthat classic weapons like the 2×4 and the meat cleaver, while a new weapon class system and “weaponized” enemies are being introduced....

Square Enix’s Crystal Defenders hits Android

After being available on iThings, WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network,Crystal Defendersis finally available on Android. Square Enix’s tower defense game, set in the world ofFinal Fantasy Tactics, is said to be available in two flavors: W1, an “introduction” to the game, and W2, a more strategic game that allows players to use the game’s Power Crystal feature. What’s odd is that there’s only one version available for purchase on the Android Market, and it’s simply calledCrystal Defenders....
