Spike Video Game Awards’ viewership continues to drop

Did you watch the 2009Spike Video Game Awardsfor the actual awards themselves, the slew of announcements, or not at all? Based on some viewership data provided by The Cut Scene, that last choice applies to an increasingly large number of TV-watching individuals. While it seemed to be an improvement over the previous VGA ceremonies, I still found myself only wanting to hear aboutArkham Asylum 2rather than the award winners — Best Performance by a Human Female winner Megan Fox says “hello” — for obvious reasons....

Eidos Montreal isn’t working onDeus Ex 3alone. Square Enix: no more Final Fantasy for Xbox 360 fans

It looks like there is yetanothercase of a developer not showing the Xbox 360 the sort of love that it so craves as a lonely American console in a Japanese game world. The latest rumblings come from a Square Enix executive who is quoted as telling Japan’s Nikkei BP that they have no intentions of blessing the Microsoft console with any newFinal Fantasygames. Study: Gamers sleep less than non-gamers

I’ll be damned. So everyone doesn’t stay up into the wee hours of the morning playing games? It’s just gamers? And that makes them tired? Not to poo poo on anyone’s research or anything, but I could have told you that. But this data, which is to be presented at SLEEP 2009, the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, gives us some hard numbers and facts. It turns out that those that game over seven hours a week and those who call their habit a gaming addiction sleep less during the week than other gamers, about an hour less....

TGS 2007: Wring my sweatrag, Fight Club twink… it’s Duel Love DS!

Allow me to present some real life, over-the-shoulder, excruciatingly imported and edited on an entirely underpowered machine, demo footage ofDuel Lovefor the Nintendo DS. At the Tecmo party, Flynn DeMarco ofGayGamerandKotakutook me by the elbow and led me conspiratorially aside. “Look,” he said, his be-chained wrists arcing gracefully, “I know you’re a complete and total fruit bat. Florian told me; right after he asked me about myrumpus. It’s okay. As long as you stay away from our REAL twinks, we really don’t mind....

The Burger King gameplay videos have arrived!

Here they are boys and girls, just like I promised. All three games are represented here in video form and I must say, after spending roughly 10 minutes total with each so far, thatBig Bumpin’is my favorite of the bunch. But, even though I had the most fun withBig Bumpin’, the intro forSneak Kingis by far the best thing I’ve seen in ages. Have a look at these pretty sweet $3....

The invisible political commentary of Blacksite: Area 51

The Brainy Gamer(via Electro Lemon) has a very interesting article up discussing the heady ideals ofBlacksite: Area 51, Midway’s latest attempt to bring theArea 51label a decent game. By all accounts, the title is but a shallow one about shooting aliens and provides little of thoughtful substance, but according to lead designer Harvey Smith, its intentions are/were so much loftier, aiming to provide commentary on the state of the Iraq war:...

The Overgrowth webcomic provides ultraviolence, indie cred

Lugaru, the greatest rabbit-themed martial arts game ever made, is getting a sequel calledOvergrowth. The guys at Wolfire Games have done some of the coolest viral marketing I’ve ever seen from the indie crowd. They’ve given constant game updates on their blog, filmed remarkably insightfuldesign toursof other indie games, and their main marketing dude at industry events wears a kilt and a lumberjack beard. Perhaps their most interesting attempt at promotingOvergrowth, however, comes in the form of their newly-releasedOvergrowthwebcomic....
