I know most of you sick bastards have been waiting for Miley Cyrus, but someone more important has just turned eighteen today, and he’s everybody’s favorite blue hedgehog. Sega’s long-suffering mascot has become legal, and if you thought the furry slash fanfiction was badbefore, you just wait to see how horrible it gets today. To celebrate Sonic’s birthday, Sega is giving away loads of stuff in Twitter via itsSonic Gamesaccount. If you want free stuff, follow them and jump through a series of hoops in order to win things like download codes for XBLA games, and a load merchandise with Sonic’s battered face on it....

Last night’s new episode ended with Peter Griffin playing someCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Like EVERYTHING Peter does on the show, he ends up sucking pretty hard at the game. Do note the little cameo by Infinity Ward’s Community Manager,FourZeroTwo. It should also be noted that FourZeroTwo is a cheap player as he goes after total noobs. What a jerk.

Last week, Famitsu broke news of a sequel to the fantasticHalf-Minute Hero.And here we are, a week later, seeing screenshots of just such a thing. Marvelous! While I’m not entirely sure what’s going on in all of the images, it certainly looks familiar. And by “familiar” I mean “quirky and fun.” Of particular interest to me is the shot of a castle on robot legs fighting a huge demon. The idea is highly appealing....

For the wonderful price of 800 Nintendo Bucks, you too can experience the fun of yesteryear when practically every studio on the planet tried to create a decentMario Kart-like title. In case you missed it, packages of meat were sent out to press members in the name ofBulletstorm. God, I love this industry. Anyway, it was all quite gross, and we caught footage of Hamza’s initial reaction to the package. Needless to say,he adored it. Wieden + Kennedy, the place responsible for sending out these atrocities, has a bunch of behind-the-scenes photos of the creation process. Don’t get me wrong, the pics are unpleasant, but where the meat came from versus where Iimaginedit came from doesn’t stack up....

Yesterday I posted a report thatIGN had critically slammed the PS3 versionofAssassin’s Creed, claiming the framerate issues were so bad, they affected the gameplay and that the former Sony exclusive fared poorly in comparison to the Xbox 360. Lo and behold, I wake up this morning to find theInternet set ablazewith reports that IGN has actually modified the review. I’m not sure why IGN felt the need to do this — pressure from Sony and/or Ubisoft, a need to impress PS3 fans and keep them reading, or maybe they just didn’t want Destructoid on the case....

Our Indie Nation series highlights interesting videogames from — wait for it — independent developers. Amusement, and shame. These are the two emotions that every single classic LucasArts adventure game inspires in me. I laugh endlessly atSam and Max Hit the Road, while I shake my fist in the air at the game’s more ridiculously obscure puzzles. I consider insult-swordfighting one of the most comedic puzzle mechanics ever invented, but I’d still argue that no normal human being could ever be expected to completeLeChuck’s Revengewithout consulting a walkthrough....

I’ve been wracking my brain for weeks, trying to figure out what I’m going to wear to the Destructoid anniversary party in Miami next week. Guerilla Games’ lead tester, Seb Downie, has decided to shoot his mouth off on the officialKillzoneforums about a plannedKillzone 2public beta. Posting on thekillzone.comforums, Seb Downie (under the alias ‘motherH’) revealed: “Of course there is going to be a public beta. I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended.” Downie ends his message by insinuating that more information will be revealed later in the year....

Microsoft has released a brood of brand new TV ads in preparation for Kinect’s release, and they are about as cloying, desperate, arrogant and pathetic as you might imagine. In fact, they might be the most embarrassing commercials this industry has seen in years. There are three of them, advertisingKinectimals,Joy RideandKinect Sports, although you’ll be forgiven for not knowing which advert is which, due to the fact that barely any gameplay footage is shown....

Who knows if the “leaked” images of the slim PS3 are real or not?They didn’t look very real to us. Or maybe it wasa different one. We keep hearing about a slim PS3. Regardless, someone doesn’t want us looking at them. Someone called in the lawyer attack dogs (à laCall of Duty: World at War) and sent them to website Spong. Taiwan-based lawyers asked the site to remove images and a story named ‘New Slim PlayStation 3 Pix Torn Down,’ which they ran late last week....

GameStop drops the deets on this upcoming Lego game in their emailer. Yep, I pulled news from spam. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 Collector’s Editionis coming for Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii. The CE will come in a fancypants box, and inside you’ll find the game, a behind-the-scenes vid, a look at the flickDeathly Hallows, and some on-the-set video action. There’s also a download code for an Xbox Live Harry Potter avatar item....

Well, it looks like Media Molecule’s PlayStation 3 exclusiveLittleBigPlanetfinally has a release date. Well, at least it does in Japan; according to Sony’sJapaneseLPBWeb site, the game will be released on October 30 for 5,980 yen (roughly $56 US). We’d be lying if we said we weren’t secretly plotting to ninja our way into Media Molecule’s United Kingdom-based offices to grab our own copy ofLittleBigPlanet. After it was first revealed over a year ago at GDC 07, we’ve been teased with trailers and empty (so far) promises of a public beta....
