In case you aren’t up-to-date, EA Sports is doing their video game covers a bit differently this year. The 360, Wii, and PS3 versions ofNCAA Football 09will each have their own covers, while the PS2 and PSP versions will feature the same athlete. EA is staggering the announcements; the first cover to be revealed was that of the360 version of the game— so Darren McFadden’s fans are already satisfied. The Wii version’s cover was put up to a vote, and after 700,000 votes were tallied, the winner was announced today....

Those silly developers at Twisted Pixel have seen 2 Girls 1 Cup, and they liked (?) the icky web sensation enough to parody it withMs. Splosion Man. In the June issue ofGame Informer, a new mode called “2G1C” will be revealed. For the time being, Twisted Pixel is working up to that pointwith daily videos. The first of the batch was released today, and the finale is set to go up on Friday....

My 3DS systems are like lifeless little boxes that sometimes get booted up to play an old DS game on a different screen. I’ve been sequencing songs inKorg M01for awhile now on my 3DS because there’s nothing else to do on it. Hopefully that ends on June 6th. Nintendo sends word that we’re finally getting the update that will make our 3DS systems spring to life. Madden 09had its share of online exploits. Its follow-upMadden 10, a near overhaul of the series, featured far less. But it didn’t stop over a quarter of a million people from checking out the online component once and never returning. In a recent conversation withKotaku, Madden creative direction Ian Cummings said that that an estimated 350,000 Madden 10 users never got beyond their first taste of competitive play. We’re guessing these people got the hurt put on them by a top-tier talent, or just quickly tired of the trickery most veterans are aware of....

There’s no stopping the pirating of games. It’s going to happen whether it should or shouldn’t. However, the tactics used against pirates can vary greatly. Most of the time a company being pirated comes down hard on pirate, but Activision is reportedly trying something different. They’re trying to be nice. VentureBeat is reporting that the company has contacted pirates and basically asked them nicely to not sell pirated versions ofCall of Duty: Black Ops....

Word on the street is that a little game calledAssassin’s Creed 2snuck onto retail shelves this morning alongsideLeft 4 Dead 2. A quick look at the launch teaser for the successor to the originalAssassin’s Creedconfirms said word on the street. Most critics have been talking up the latest Ubisoft title, stating that it offers more complex and differentiated content than its predecessor. I find that to be a soothing point. I became mad bored and frustrated with the original’s cycle of missions....

Audiballis a cute name, and this looks like a cute game too. It will launch with the XNA/Community Games feature which is released alongside the New Xbox Experience on November 19. For only 200 points, this laid back peripheral-based rhythm puzzler might be worth a look. Check out the video and see if it’s your cup of tea. Personally, this community games chicanery is the highlight of the New Xbox Experience launch, so I can’t wait to see everything that is notJelly Car....

The Behemoth has announced a new downloadable content pack for the PSN version ofCastle Crashers. The Pink Knight Pack contains what Behemoth has said is the “single most requested character.” As you may be able to surmise from it’s name, that would be the Pink Knight, whose pack also includes the Lollipop weapon and four additional, new implements of destruction. The pack will release February 8th for $1.99 and, perhaps best of all, 100% of all revenue Behemoth sees from the pack will be donated to breast cancer research charities....

Ancient is responsible for one of my favorite Genesis games of all time,Beyond Oasis. Essentially Sega’s answer toThe Legend of Zelda, it was a gorgeous little game with some interesting gimmicks and traditional top-down adventuring. It was a fine little game, which is why it’s so cool to see that Ancient is still kicking away, developing a new title for Xbox Live’s Indie Games channel. It’s calledMammote Knightand it looks absolutely brilliant....

Major Nelsonis saying that the mandatory Xbox 360 update does the following: • Improved support for HD video output over VGA, including 1080p resolution • Improved plug and play performance for wired headsets when being used with wireless controllers • Changes made to recently played games list to improve accuracy But, be warned — some 1080p users have been having issues with the dashboard update. Apparently, it renders VGA cables useless by making the video non-existent....

Texas-based “casual games” publisher MumboJumbo is set to brave the retail waters with the PC version ofBraid. Set to arrive this month, this packaged edition of the game won’t have extras. It will, however, cost an additional 10 bucks, as its packaged price is locked in at 20 bones. Digging deeper,Joystiqhas discovered that the usual line-up of retailers is set to carry this piece of indie success — your Wal-marts, Targets, and Best Buys, as well as several other big brick-and-mortar joints, are said to be a part of the distribution....
