Remember that short film featuring a “realistic” Mortal Kombat universe fromway backin ’10? You should, because it wasn’t something you would easily forget. Well, get ready to watch more like it online. According to Bloody Disgusting, Director Kevin Tancharoen, who made the short, is poised to direct a 10-webisode series for Warner Bros. instead of the rumoredMortal Kombatreboot movie. Tancharoen will be writing the script with Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing, staff writers ofSpartacus: Blood and Sand....

It wouldn’t be a Microsoft launch without hiccups. Despite having a generally smooth rollout, the New Xbox Experience has suffered from a few problems. There are reports of crashes and the obligatory red rings (my 360 crashed twice in the new friends list last night), but the most common issue is the Marketplace not working right, something I mentioned inthe review. A2M’s incredibly promising action game in which an angry bear seeks revenge against his own kind is looking like it has strong potential. Even if the gameisn’tvery good, the premise alone is golden. We’re still being teased on the violence front, however. Yesterday’s trailer built up to it but held back, while these screens show Naughty Bearaboutto commit atrocities, but stop just short of revealing any actual death or destruction....

According toJeux France, Electronic Arts CEOJohn Riccitiello has revealed that the nextNeed for Speedtitle — apparently calledNeed for Speed: Undercover— will be inspired by the 2002 action filmThe Transporter. The film (directed byDOA: Dead or Alivevisionary Corey Yuen) focused on an ex-Special Forces op played by actor Jason Statham. As a “transporter” for hire, Statham’s character would accept cash to transport “goods,” no questions asked. The result was a lot of fast action and s**t exploding, which would be a new direction for EA’sNeed for Speedseries....

Rockstar has just announced the next next episode of theirGrand Theft Auto IVcontent, “The Ballad of Gay Tony” will be coming exclusively to Xbox 360 this fall. Microsoft is looking tobridge the gapbetween computers and consoles even more with a new service that lets you use the Xbox Live Marketplace via your PC’s web browser. The new service allows you to purchase content for your Xbox 360 from any browser, and then have the content downloaded instantly to the console, ready to use whenever you’re at the machine. One would assume this would require the 360 to be switched on and in sleep mode, because otherwise the whole system would take on a supernatural aspect, and I don’tthinkMS’ occult dealings are quite that far ahead yet....

Come to think of it, I vaguely remember playingGuild Warsfor a solid few months back when it first launched. What strange days those were. The game has undoubtedly come a long way since then, and hey, AreaNet isn’t quite ready to stop yet. It’s gotten a new update, which includes a new outpost in the Battle Isles calledEmbark Beach— it allows groups to travel to any destination in any campaign for quest-embarking purposes....

I don’t believe in wireless networks. I’m not one of those guys who is so hopeless that I have to physically see something to believe that it’s working and/or exists. I’m just hopelessly paranoid about the things. I would rather cut and lay new ethernet cable every time I move than place my trust in something that transmits my data through the air. Just one of my little quirks, I guess....
