According to recent reports inVariety, thePirates of the Caribbeandirector has just signed on to direct a movie based on the virtual life phenomenon that isSecond Life. While few details are known at this early stage, it seems the movie will focus on thehumanpeople involved in the “game,” not the actual avatars that live inside it....

Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan has announced thatGran Turismo 5will be out on November 3 for ¥7,980 (about $95). A limited edition version of the game will also be on sale for the same price which will include a 308 page book plus a code to download the five cars in the gallery below. Sony is also releasing a special titanium blue PlayStation 3 bundle for ¥35,980 (about $425). The “Racing Pack” bundle will include the limited edition version ofGran Turismo 5and a 160 GB HDD blue PS3....

Our Jonathan Holmes got to participate in what might seem like the more exciting side of a of aChild of Edenpress event, which was scheduled to coincide with last month’s Tokyo Game Show. We split the duties, which gave him the hands-on (hands-off?) experience with the game’s Microsoft Kinect motion-controlled mode while I took the standard control pad mode. Sony hastoday announcedthat if you pre-order Quantic Dream’s big PS3 exclusiveHeavy Rain, you will gain access to the first downloadable episode in the “Heavy Rain Chronicles” series. These DLC chapters would normally be priced at $4.99, but reserved copies nab the first episode for free. Burnouthas become such a well loved franchise to gamers that the mere mention ofBurnoutlights up people’s faces. So now there’s aPrototypeFacebook game, everyone! Radical Entertainment haslaunched //Blacknet for the social network, modeled after the in-gamePrototype 2interface which shares its name. Players will team up to “hack” into an encrypted network where they will uncover hidden content — wallpapers, gameplay videos, screenshots… the works. They’re promising new content every week leading up toPrototype 2‘s 2012 launch, so that’s a whole hell of a lot of hacking. Get to it....
