Hidden Path Entertainment is bringing their highly addictive tower defense game to Xbox LIVE Arcade in two weeks.Defense Grid: The Awakeningis going to go for 800 MS Points on September 2, and the port will see some additional content such as four new levels and 12 challenge modes. Wereviewed the PCversion ofDefense Gridwhen it came out and liked the game a lot. The $20 price point was a little hard to swallow but if the controls transition well to the XBLA port, than I thinkDefense Gridcould definitely be worth the purchase....

Dev: Piracy a natural reaction to high videogame prices

Revolution Software co-founder Charles Cecil has addressed the ever-thorny issue of videogame piracy, and he has not sided with the “pity me” publishers. Instead, the British developer has explained that piracy is “nature’s way” of dealing with high prices and inconvenient distribution. “Personally, I think that the level of piracy we have is nature’s way of turning around and saying games are too expensive and the way that they are distributed is not ideal,” claims Cecil....

Dress up your Xbox 360 avatar in new duds — for free, no less!

Okay, maybe this whole avatar thing is a little cooler than I personally expected — after all, my Mii looks nothing like me, and at least my 360 avatar kind of does. I did expect that the avatars would be an excuse for Microsoft to create a massive virtual wardrobe and charge gamers through the ass for it, so seeing that the first new additions are free was certainly a breath of fresh air....

DToid Interview: Rey Jimenez on Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

With the announcement of afancypantsversion ofSuper Street Fighter II Turbohitting the XBLA and PSN, millions of gamers the world over took to the streets in a giddy orgy of violence not unlike the celebration following the end of the first Iraq War, or a college football bowl game. I was there amongst them and even though I’m completely fabricating this scenario, I singlehandedly burned three cars and punched a cop in the throat all in celebration of the second coming of what is widely considered the finest 2D fighting game in history....

E3 08: Goblins still peeing, making cheese in Firefly Studios’ Dungeon Hero

Oh yes,Dungeon Hero— the game wheregoblins take leaks. Back at Gamecock’s EIEIO event in Austin a few months ago, we got afirst lookat the Firefly Studios hack-and-slash title in action. The title’s heavy focus on a more realistic dungeon-crawling experience definitely made it stand out — weapons had weight, the game’s hero was sufficiently bad-assed but not over the top, and goblins did their daily business Today, I had a chance to sit down with the game’s London-based developer Firefly Studio to see how all of that goblin peeing is shaping up....

E3 10: Kinect requires separate power adapter for old 360

Huh. This is somewhat a weird one that makes sense, sure. Microsoft has had all sorts of interesting news with the Kinect/brand new Xbox 360, but there’s another extra little incentive to get the shiny black console. The Kinect, as a somewhat powerful device itself, sips away at energy. It sucks up enough juice, in fact, that users of older Xbox 360s are going to have to use a separate power adapter to make this special camera work....

Exclusive Yakuza press package from France

As you probably don’t know, I’m a journalism student. (And Destructoid’s first guest blogger in France, wh00t! – Niero) When you study journalism, you must go out and find internships. For the last three months I’ve been working for a few French websites, one of which covers hi-tech stuff. Luckily, it gives me the opportunity to write articles about video games from time to time, which puts me in an enviable position as some industry folks have offered to send me free press copies of games....

Expanded Universe: Why do we watch video game movies?

[Lurfadur discusses the inherently stupid, yet satisfying nature of videogame movies for this month’sExpanded Universestheme. -Anthony] After seeing Watchmen in the theater and actually enjoying it quite thoroughly, I was surprised to read about all the bad scores and reviews it was getting. I had finished reading the graphic novel about a week before the film was released, so while I did understand and love the story I hadn’t been obsessing over it for 20 some years either....

Final Fantasy band nixes name in fear of Square banhammer

If you’ve ever listened to the Arcade Fire, Beirut, Stars, or any number of alternative Canadian bands, you’ve heard Final Fantasy’s work. At least, you heard whatusedto be Final Fantasy: violinist, composer, and indie-pop übermensch Owen Pallett has officially dropped the Final Fantasy moniker in preparation for his new album,Heartland. “I began playing solo violin shows in 2004,” explains Pallett. “Although it was essentially a solo project, I named the band Final Fantasy, as the experience—and the tone of the material—was reminiscent of the hours and hours I had spent as an adolescent playing those epic JRPGs....
