Contest: We need a new Podtoid graphic!

The above is the current picture of the Podtoid cast from the official web site. It is, you will notice, somewhat outdated. I’m lazy as hell and typically pretend I’m not as narcissistic as I am, so I initially didn’t mind this outdated, if attractive, relic of times past. Hamsa, however, wasfurious. “Get rid of thatF*CKINGimage,” he grunted at me, his hand twisting the front of my shirt. Spittle slapped my face as he growled, “Make it a contest....

Cops die, videogames did it (obviously)

In yet another instance of videogames being seen as more responsible for crime than criminals are, this year’s 60% rise in American police officer shootings has been convenientlypinned on harmless plastic discsby a member of the law enforcement community. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman would like to believe that gang crime is caused by ‘cop killing sims’ and not, you know, idiots who think gangs are a good idea. Of course, streets gangs have been around since the 1900s....

Dance Central intro will have you shaking your ass

The intro to Harmonix’sDance Centralis pretty cool. So cool, in fact, that I almost pulled footage of it myself to be all “Here, look at this!” Well, good thing I decided to play the game instead, because MTV Games and Harmonix just released the intro themselves. It’s good to be lazy. Amusing side note, the file they sent out was named “Hammer Intro,” a reference to the title’s codename, “Hammer....

Debunk: No, GameStop WON’T sell the NGP for $1,000

GameStop hasstarted to take preordersfor the freshly revealed PSP successor, codenamed theNext Generation Portable. However, somepeople have gotten their panties in a bunch over the price estimate, which lists the console for a whopping $999.99. Is this an indication that the system will carry an outrageous price tag, the likes of which we’ve never seen? Is somebody at GameStop having an evil joke at our expense? That’s what it seems to suggest to the untrained eye, but it’s actually less sinister than that....

Demented Nintendo themed Valentine cards

Play Nintendohas made some very special Nintendo themed Valentine cards. I’m not a fan of the “holiday” myself. As a matter of fact, I hate it (I’m more of aSteak and BJ guy). After seeing these cards though, I wouldn’t mind wasting ink on printing these and handing them out. Granted, if I hand out theKirby oneto random ladies, I might get a swift kick to the nuts. There are few good ones and a new one will be released every day up until Valentines Day....

Destructoid Review: The Sims 2 Castaway

Selling millions of copies is an excellent achievement, but I don’t think anyone would disagree that the formula behind The Sims has grown a bit stale over the last seven years. At this point everyone who could possibly love the virtual doll house gimmick has already dressed, undressed and simulated virtual copulation with said dolls, and the whole thing is wearing rather thin. Which is why when EA announced they would be creating drastically different Sims titles, you could almost hear the collective ears of the mainstream market perk up in unison like so many curious German Shepherds....

Developers and publishers warm up to the PSP, shipments up 85%

After the PSP’s launch in 2005, gamers became increasingly down in the mouth about Sony’s first portable attempt. There was a serious lack of quality titles, and some worried that it would become a “port machine.” Times have definitely changed. Two years later, we’re seeing top notch original releases, and sales are up from last year. What changed? We all know that good games sell systems, and it just may be that it took this long for developers and publishers to catch on to what needed to be done to make a successful PSP title....

DJ Hero gets its first DLC: Gorillaz, Queen, and more

DJ Heromay have a high amount of mixes on the disc — 93,to be exact— but there’s always room for more. Especially if you find yourself getting tired of the same songs appearing in multiple mash-ups. Available now on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 480 MS Points ($5.99) is the “Extended Mix Pack 01.” I don’t own PlayStation 3, so I could not confirm if the new mixes were also on the PlayStation Store yet, but they are supposed to be on there today....

Dr. Phil show sensationalizes gaming coverage, possibly touches children

According tothis storyon GamePolitics.com,Dr. Phil— an Oprah-funded, hour-long glimpse into the depressing state of what America considers to be the psychiatric profession — recently approachedGamer Dadfounder Andrew Bub as a possible guest for an upcoming segment they have planned on the perils of MMO addiction amongst teens. This seemed like great news, as Mr. Bub is one of the more highly respected, moderate, sane members of the gaming media megasphere, and in all honesty, I think he would be an excellent guest on any show that sought to realistically talk about the dangers of gaming and children....

Dungeon Siege film reaction: ‘This movie blows. Hard. I mean extremely hard.’

Dungeon Siege, the game, revolved entirely around stabbing things and burning them with arcane magic. It was somehow less cerebral than theDiabloseries, the finest games ever based around an experiment to determine how long it takes for repetitive stress injuries to develop in index fingers. According to everything I just said, turning the title into a braindead popcorn flick rife with semi-nude women, explosive pyrotechnics and vaguely Arthurian dialogue should be right up the alley of absolutely any hack in Hollywood with enough cognitive ability to open his Powerbook....

E3 09: Here’s what Facebook/Twitter looks like on Xbox 360

Announced by the charming and small Felicia Day earlier today at Microsoft’s E3 media briefing, both Twitter and Facebook integration are coming to Xbox LIVE this Fall. Visually, it’s seamlessly integrated with the existing NXE interface. Functionally, it should work that way as well — you’ll be able to view updates, photos, and add friends to your Xbox LIVE list right from the Xbox 360 Facebook/Twitter applications. It looks pretty slick, for sure, and as aTwitter addict myselfit’s definitely neat....
