Why you have a sad, sad wallet

In a recent report,Forbessheds some interesting light on the topic of game pricing — for those of you in possession of inquiring minds. According to them, the $60 price tag that Xbox 360 games are now proudly sporting is a 20% increase over game prices of the past. Wii Shop releases for the week of 8/4: Wild West Guns, Sonic, Splatterhouse 2

This weeks Wii Shop Channel releases aren’t exactlywhat Capcom had in mind. It seemed to be under the impression thatMega Man 4the originalMega Manwould be making an appearance on the Virtual Console today. Well, Nintendo does what Nintendo wants apparently, because that’s not quite the case. Gameloft’sWild Wild Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points), a point at things and then shoot them original WiiWare title is available today, however. I think the a sentance in the press release says it all: “Point and shoot to earn points....

Zombies invade Scott Pilgrim vs. The World game!

Last week, Ubisoft sent me a preview build ofScott Pilgrim vs. The Worldfor PlayStation Network. One thing it didn’t tell me (and why in the hell not?) is that there’s a secret code you can input on the title screen that will unlock zombie enemies. Why keep this from me, Ubisoft!? I had to hear it from Edgar Wright, the director of the upcomingScott Pilgrim vs. the Worldfilm, who posted it on his blog along with a video of the undead pixels in action....

Activision does it again: CoD: Black Ops is 54.99 in UK

Remember last year when Activision proved just what a bastard it is by trying to sellModern Warfare 2for £55? Well, according to recent retail listings, the fiends are at it again.Call of Duty: Black Opsis already up for pre-order via a number of outlets, and you guessed it — Activision wants fifty-five queenquids. To be fair to the retailers, most of them aren’t being scummy and have slashed £10 from the RRP already, but the simple fact is that Activision, yet again, is charging a premium rate for its game just because it feels it can get away with it, and that’s pretty damn grotesque....

Anamanaguchi: The badass behind Scott Pilgrim’s music

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Video Gameis going to look great because they brought in Paul Robertson. We already knew that. But it’s going to sound great because they brought in chiptunersAnamanaguchifor the soundtrack. I’m super excited about that, naturally. Stacking a great soundtrack from a great band on top of great art from a cool property is going to make for a killer game. The PlayStation Blog has a really cool feature that shows off a few too-short snippets from the game’s soundtrack....

Andy Serkis is opening a mo-cap studio for games and film

I’m pretty sure that Andy Serkis has done for motion capturing whatCitizen Kanedid for deep focus. There’s no doubt that his performance as Gollum inThe Lord of the Ringsfilms cemented motion capture as a viable option for an important role or performance. It’s even more exciting that he’s been bringing his skills to games (Enslavedis next) and is at leastpasionate abouthow important real stories are in games. Thus, it should come as very little surprise that the man hasopened upthe first motion capture studio in the UK to produce high quality performances for games and film....
