Wil Wheaton to give keynote at PAX East

One of my favorite moments from PAX 2007 was Wil Wheaton’s keynote speech. It was just mesmerizing listening to Wil speak the geek gospel. Plus, the first thing out of his mouth pretty much set the mood for that entire week at PAX — that mood being one of pure awesomeness. See for yourself above. Wil will be doing the honors once again and kicking off PAX right by giving the keynote speech at PAX East....

YTMND Thursday: E For All edition

Why is this the E For All edition? Because E For All started today. That’s really the only reason. Easily my favorite of the selection this week has to be the James Bond lovesMario Kart DSone. ZOMG! Steam has been taken over by ‘the casuals’

It was inevitable, I suppose. Not even Valve’s digital distribution service Steam — one of the few remaining bastions of “proper” PC gaming — couldremain safefrom theterrible horrorsof casual gaming. 2012 has clearly come early. … Ok, so that’s probably blowing things out of proportion a bit, especially sincePegglehas been available on the service since forever. All that’s really going on is that a new “Family Gaming” section has been added to the Steam Store....

‘Journalist’ who wrote GTA Raoul Moat story is a prick

After writing an article full of lies, deliberately upsetting the relative of a murder victim, and generally ruining the name of his entire industry, you’d think the man responsible for thetastelessGrand Theft Auto: Northumbriastorywould be remorseful. He was not. Faux journalist and twat Jerry Lawton is the man responsible for vomiting up aDaily Stararticle that falsely claimed Rockstar was planning to make aGTAgame based on real-life murderer Raoul Moat. On hisFacebook page, the man expressed surprise and contempt for anybody who thought that what he did was reprehensible, making sure to betray his own low opinion of gamers in the process....

79% of portable gaming done at home, no word on how much is done on the toilet

Research done by the NPD has revealed that 79 percent of iPhone, PSP, and DS owners use the handhelds at home more so than out of the house. The research has also shown that people are playing on handhelds more now than they were three months ago. The NPD broke downsome stats to Edge showingwhich features of the portable devices are being used most. Most notably is the increase of iPhone owners playing games in the last three months, which makes sense as some decent games have come out on the iPhone lately....

Amazon has Tatsunoko vs. Capcom cheap, gives $10 bonus

Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. You know you’re going to buy it. I have the Japanese version, and I’m still buying this. I think Amazon is the way to go if you haven’t pre-ordered this fighter already. Their price of $46.99 is pretty good already, but they’re giving away a bonus $10 in credit which you can use toward another game. I’d hold on to the $10 credit, as Q1 2010 is already looking pretty crazy....

Atlus showing off some clever 3D Dot Heroes creations

I’m very easily intimidated by creation tools in videogames. If there’s no negative impact upon me for avoiding their use, I’ll often just go with whatever default is available. I have a ton of respect for people who make these things, though and love seeing what others can do with such tools. Atlus put together this video featuring a few of their favorite player creations in3D Dot Game Heroes. Some of them are very cool, particularly the cosplayer at the end....

Now, I’m no analyst, nor am I even particularly bright, but I think it’s safe to say that Atlus, champions of anime-style art direction and brilliant use of cel-shading, is doing pretty well for itself.Persona 3iscritically acclaimed— paving the way foranother game in the series— and Atlus has been announcing and releasing aslewofnewandinterestinggames. Atlus’ Devil Survivor port for 3DS looks pretty

You may have heard that Atlus is bringing DSDevil Survivor back as a 3DS title this year. We heard the news from Japan, but Atlus USA recently confirmed it for a summer 2011 release here. YES.I gave the DS strategy RPG a 9/10, but this port should be even better on that pretty 3DS screen with its new visuals. It’s now fully voiced (yay for higher memory capacity) and offers even more content with a new chapter called “8th Day....

Ban this SICK FILTH: Games that have upset me

Last year, I took you on a tour of videogames thatpersonally offend me. As you may recall, I used to be what you nerds call a “hardcore gamer.” Sure, I played many examples of your interactive softwares, and it was all fun and games — until I was personally offended by something. Now I want videogames to die. It’s likeSouth Park. That show used to be hilarious until it satirized something I was personally invested in, and now I can’t watch an episode without coming up in hives and attempting to vomit my own rib cage....
