Win a Nintendo Wii and Signed Tales of Symphonia…if you live in the UK

Upon my return from PAX and high on the community love, I felt it was time to get Dtoid UK together. I started up the Google group, we went away to EuroGamer and have even more events and meets planned. Yet, I couldn’t help feeling that Dtoid UK was still missing something, so I spent some time thinking, called a few people and I think I finally cracked it. I present a Destructoid UK (only) competition....

You get what you pay for: PSTriples darn near indestructible?

With all of the negativity surrounding the quality of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 hardware, it’salmosta welcome sight to see a headline proclaiming the durability of the PlayStation 3 (however partial the source may be). According to recent tests conducted by PS3Vault, nothing short of asledgehammeris powerful enough to bring the mighty PS3 to its knees. So what sort of hardships did the PSTriple endure and pass with flying colors? How about 108 hours of pretty much nonstop use in the harshest of environments:...

Zelda Gold Cartridge bag is so chic

Seriously, if I wasn’t a woman, I’d probably march straight to the parts doctor and get a vagina installed so I could carry this amazing bag. I’d buy gold shoes to match this bag. I’d ride a golden chocobo to the ends of the earth to dig this bag out from a treasure chest buried in the deepest recesses of Atlantis. Anyway, you get the picture. It’s sold atHot Topic, which is not good, but you can mail order one and avoid actually entering the store, which is good....

ZREO Project; bringing Link’s tunes to your iPod

4 Color Rebellion hada snippetup today about a new project that we think is the bee’s knees. TheZREO (Zelda REOrchestrated) Projectis an ambitious undertaking that seeks to recreate the music from everyLegend of Zeldatitle in an orchestral setting. While they may not eventually employ an actual orchestra, with today’s electronic instrumentation, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference anyway, unless you’re one of those people who claims to be able to hear the difference between 320kbps and 192kbps MP3s....

Speaking with MCV, he gave the prediction, saying “PC games will be sold completely via digital” when that time frame rolls around. His reasoning behind such a bold prediction? The lackluster handling of PC games by brick and mortar retailers....

2,500,000,000 Achievements unlocked, actual value still 0

Achievments are a funny thing. They get you nothing and yet you still want them worse then ever. What was the point of spending five hours discovering some remotely hidden section of a game? Nothing, but we still do it, and we do it a lot evidently. Since Achievements started 2.5 billionhave been unlocked, with a collective gamer score of 52 billion being achieved. That means if you have less than 150 achievements then you’re under the average every gamer should have and you better get to work....

500k sales of each PS3 game needed for profit

OK, so get this. The average PlayStation 3 game costs $8.6 million to create. As if that isn’t bad enough for game developers’ pockets, according to Takeo Takasu, president of Namco Bandai, 500,000 units of each game must be sold worldwide in order to break even. “We have to sell at least 500,000 copies per title worldwide to make a profit on PlayStation 3 games,” said Takasu. So far the Japanese firm has released two games for the PS3, Ridge Racer 7 and Gundam, both of which are available in Japan and North America, and according to Takasu are “selling well....

A lot of people play RuneScape: Enough to earn a world record, anyway

I clearly just don’t getRuneScape. Some time ago, at the insistence of a younger cousin (who played the free MMO religiously), I gave the game a shot, and was subsequently unimpressed. Maybe my standards were just set too high, used to the level of quality in higher-profile MMOs that come attached with a monthly fee. Well, despite whatever kept me from getting into it, there seem to be a lot of people that did....

Anyone for mystery? Sherlock Holmes vs. Ars?ne Lupin

I’m still nostalgic for point-and-click PC adventure games. You know, ridiculously obscure puzzles that require you to combine things in an ungodly marriage, wringing your extremities in rage as you scream, “HOW THE EFF WAS I SUPPOSED TO THINK OF THAT?” And, the pointy finger, your tour guide to mystery, so often used to idly poke characters in the eyes and nose during the long, long loading screens. Don’t play with me; you know you did that....
