Two unnamed Tom Clancy games are in the works

With the just-releasedSplinter Cell: Convictionstill fresh on many of our minds, it might be a little early to begin thinking about future Tom Clancy games beyond what we know is in Ubisoft’s pipeline: a follow-up toEndWarandGhost Recon: Future Soldier. Ubisoft’s Michel Verheijdt, speaking to Dutch website Control, confirmed that he was working on two Tom Clancy videogames. He then proceeded to make a joke about sending Sam Fisher our way if we were to hear more — in other words, actual — details about the two projects....

It’s already August somehow, which means gamescom 2010 is steadily approaching. The record-breaking convention, if you hadn’t heard, takes place on August 18 – 22 in Cologne, Germany. Last year’s event saw 245,000 or so visitors; I suspect it’ll be even bigger this year. Ubisoft has stepped up to give us its gamescom line-up. Yes, there will be shameful displays of public dancing — worry not! More specifically, the company is inviting you to “Get sweaty, start up your time traveling washing machine, and visit Rome....

Valkyria Chronicles sales jump 400% due to price cut

There arequite a few fansofValkyria Chronicleson the Destructoid staff, myself included — solid gameplay, breathtaking art and a beautiful story is the kind of combination in a game that’s hard to beat. At the $59.99 price point, however, the game suffered a little saleswise in the states. After a price cut, however, things have beenlooking up— and recently Sega announced a 400% sales increase for April (as compared to March). What a pleasure to see such a worthy game performing so well!...

Video: Xbox Live update preview hands-on

This fall, Xbox Live is getting yet another overhaul along with the launch of its motion controller/camera, Kinect. In many ways, it’s a visual update, with what I feel is a cleaner aesthetic. Functionally, the features you’re used to aren’t changing very much; operations-wise, it’s nearly identical. But as with any good update, there are new features hidden within, including an updated Netflix application, Zune Music and Zune Pass, as well as ESPN on-demand for sports fans....

Videogames: They cause gambling now

Laziness, murder, suicides. Videogames have been linked to all sorts of sin and vice, so what’s one more problem to throw on the pile? New “research” (i.e, some people with an agenda asked a bunch of students questions until they got the results they were looking for) shows a link betweengaming and gambling, with teenagers who play games apparently more likely to fritter their money away on games of chance....

Volition walks us through the history of Red Faction

At least, that’s what this video is supposed to be. While Volition does talk about the individualRed Factiongames, it’s nothing substantial. This ends up being more of a commercial forRed Faction: Armageddonthan anything else, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There are some changes in place, sure, but it’s still destruction-based, and it’s stillRed Faction. I greatly anticipate turning many an alien into mush.

Watch a lady freak out about Night of the Sacrifice

I’m really looking forward toNight of the Sacrifice. I’ve loved every Wii game that Marvelous has put out yet, and I doubt thisnew balance board compatible ghost storywill be any different. Even if the gameplay turns out to be less than stellar, I’m sure theart direction, scenario and the ideastherein will be enough to keep me entertained. The game may be fun, but will it be scary enough to make me totally lose my sh*t?...

Web mag Play.d profiles my favorite game journalist: Luke Smith

There are a handful of gaming journalists I actually respect in the industry and the one at the top of that list is 1UP’s Luke Smith. Believe it or not, but I come from a hard-core journalist education and work experience background (I was a government/police reporter and news editor for two different newspapers at one point in my life), so I always appreciate those in this industry that take a more honest approach to bring you, the gamer, the news you want to know — because at the end of the day, you’re the ones spending your hard-earned money on these games....
