Planet scanning now tolerable in Mass Effect 2 on 360

Today is a damned good day for owners ofMass Effect 2for Xbox 360. Easily the most-hated aspect of the game, scanning planets for valuable minerals, has been addressed in the best possible way. Anew patch, which is now live, has “optimized” the process. I took it upon myself to see what BioWare meant by that — the end result was pleasing, to say the least. The scanning reticule is now larger, much faster, and turning the planets themselves is noticeably quicker too....

Preview: Asura’s Wrath

Taking inspiration from Asian mythology and the broad world of science fiction, CyberConnect 2’sAsura’s Wrathdoesn’t sit comfortably in either of those worlds. It draws from themes and aesthetics of mythology, for sure. And yeah, what looks like a spaceship will drop enemies into a skirmish. But whatever the hell is happening inAsura’s Wrathis neither grounded in mythology or like any science fiction I’ve ever seen. It’s over-the-top combat and outlandish world seems plucked out of the overactive imagination of a child overdosed on anime....

PS Vita memory cards might kill your wallet

TGS was supposed to bePS Vita’s show. With the console launching injust about 3 months in Japan, and shortly thereafter in the rest of the world, this could be the last chance for Vita to really impress potential suitors. Sadly, it’s also been a time for future consumers to find out some of the consoles little flaws, sort of like admitting to your future wife that you owe the government $50,000 the night before you get married....

READY TO JURI … er, FRIDAY (also, new SSFIV info)

SinceSuper Street Fighter IVnews is being obnoxiously trickled out a drop at a time and nobody wants to read a new post on it every ten minutes, I’ve decided to round up some info and make it part of … whatever this thing I do on Friday is. After the jump, you’ll find some juicy new details on the game, compiled from several different stops along the interbutts highway. I was going to post moreMemebon pictures, but this is just as good, I guess....

Red Dead Redemption looks gorgeous in time-lapse footage

If you’ve playedRed Dead Redemption, then you know that it’s a beautiful game. Personally, I find its capacity for creating breathtaking vistas to be unmatched; like Michael Abbott atThe Brainy Gamer, I time my saves so that I’m traveling around the game world at dawn and dusk. Riding toward the quickly setting sun, against the backdrop of a burning sky and an environment suffused with the ruddy glow of twilight, is a magnificent image that I will always remember — and one that makes me want to visit the American West....

Review: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

When I first heard that Capcom’s nextResident Evilgame was going to be a sequel to the Wii-exclusiveResident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, I was pretty disappointed.Umbrella Chroniclesactually turned out to be great — much better than I thought it would be — but still, nothing about the game demanded a sequel. However, that’s what we’ve got, like it or not, so instead of b*tching about whatThe Darkside Chroniclesisn’t (namely, a newRE4: Wii Edition-style masterpiece), let’s focus on what the game is: an on-rails shooter specifically designed for the home console market....

RPG monsters, as designed by five-year-olds

Small time publisher Arc Publishinghas no needof its art department, not when it’s gone the route of manyreputableIndian clothes factories and employed a bunch of naive children to do all the hard work. Arc is looking for monsters to appear in its new RPG,Monsters & Other Childish Things, and here arethe results so far. The only problem with these monsters is that they look like they were designed by five-year-olds, proving my theory that kids are useful for nothing....

Rumor: Retail leak: Metroid Other M, Wii party details

If the retailer report leaks are true, then we’ve got some interesting knowledge on some upcoming Nintendo games and accessories. Nintendo regularly updates retailers, but that stuff isn’t supposed to get back to us. It always does, though. Mind you, we haven’t seen these reports for ourselves, so take these rumors with that in mind. The most interesting one gives us a solid Japanese date forMetroid Other M: September 2nd. The last I heard about a US release date, it was set for the end of this month....

Rumortoid: Another PS3 price drop to $299? [Update]

Thelast timewe heard of a PlayStation 3 price drop it was a little more believable. Many felt that the system was overpriced, so a lower price was definitely welcome. The reduction(s) in price came, and Sony had apretty decent holidayseason for it. Now rumors are surfacing of another price drop. Another reduction in price would be every bit as welcome as the first, but this time around we’ll be a bit more cautious with our hopes....
