CES: Memorex is making all kinds of game accessories

Memorex showed me some of their new line of gaming accessories that they’re working on bringing out this year. They’re getting into the Wii business, which I hear is a good business to get into. Their controller is rubberized, has a cool d-pad, and even has Wii Motion Plus built in. The speakers and d-pad are backlight. It will be available soon, in pink and blue, for $29.99. Also on the Wii front is a wireless sensor bar with increased angle range and a wheel that has a hidden port in the back for a Wii Motion Plus block....

Cheats, more playable characters, and cross-region co-op headed to Mercs 2

After doing practically everything there is to do inMercenaries 2: World in Flames, I put the game back on my shelf and started on a different game. But as I was beating the last few missions, I thought to myself, “Man, if only they had included cheats, then I’d never stop playing.” Apparently someone at Pandemic thought that cheats would be a good idea too, as the company has announced today that an update for Xbox 360 (Oct....

Check out this top 10 list of videogame theme songs

There was one day where someone decided it would be a good idea to have a pop-style theme song in videogames. With the space and sound quality that CD storage provided, why not? Some publishers pulled in top performers and wrote full love ballads to for their latest release, and it turned out that gamers liked it. Especially Japanese gamers. This trend continued up to present day (mostly in Japan) and now there are countless videogame theme songs with full vocals....

Coldplay and Stevie Wonder join Rock Band 3’s DLC lineup

Last month Harmonix announced that they’d be revealing four artists forRock Band 3‘s new DLC. The plan was to reward fans for pushing thegame’s Facebook pageto 2 million likes before September 19. Failing that, they would announce three if the goal was met before the 26th. The first target wasn’t met in time, but Harmonix is just such a giver. Today they’ve gone ahead and given us the full list of DLC artists, uninhibited by our ineptitude....

Comic-Con 08: Microsoft will ‘explore’ the Halo universe, not ‘exploit’ it

Eurogamer had a little chatwith Microsoft Game Studios’ Frank O’Connor at Comic-Con 08 and got some choice quotes about the direction Microsoft wants to take theHalofranchise in. “We have a really detailed story bible, we do really have it all planned out. There are so many areas of the universe to explore, the real challenge is picking which is the most exciting area for people.” He’s got a point there; how manyHalobooks are there nowadays?...

Dark Void looks cool, but this Dark Void figure is cooler

Hey Capcom, want to know where thisDark Voidfigurewould look really good? On my desk, right next to my menacing-looking Cobra Commander Mighty Mugg. Just throwing it out there, guys. This 12″ figure is a thing of beauty — the exhaust, flames, and helmet all light up. As everyone knows, cramming a light into an already awesome figure makes it even better; that is until the lights break or you run out of the weird batteries it requires, and then you’re out of luck....

Destructoid review: Easy Golf

Golf is a game played primarily by psychopaths. I have no frame of reference for this, nor do I have proof, but just looking at the dress code is enough to convince me that these people have no real emotions. Outside of that, I have very little to say about Golf, which is why I was quite dumbfounded when faced with the prospect of tacklingEasy Golfon the Xbox 360’s Community Games Channel....

Destructoid review: Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes

Outside the realms of anime and manga fandom, games based on Masashi Kishimoto’sNaruto(made popular by theCartoon Networkseries andShonen Jumpmanga publication) don’t usually draw the attention of the mainstream gamer. Like with other licensed titles, some gamers assume that if they don’t care for the movie/show/comic, the probably won’t find much to enjoy in the video game. But, if you were to look underneath any game’s licensed characters, art, or music, you would find that a game is a game, and it’s not out of the question to think that a genuinely good licensed game can be made....

Difficult games: The real brain training

I beat that damn werewolf. Icomplained recentlythat the current era’s intuitive, “easy” games might have blunted my legendary, meticulously-honed gamer skillz of old, like a one-time champ who’s over the hill. A little backstory on the complaint: before picking upDracula X Chronicles, the games I played most recently wereDawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Phantom HourglassandZack & Wiki.Portraitin particular is my zone-out title of the moment; after dinner I lie on the couch for about twenty minutes or so, and I just kind of leap around the castle, whittling away at my goal of 1000% map completion, hoarding money and idly whipping succubi across their naked bosoms....
