Wii successor to be ‘thoroughly vetted’ before decided upon

It should come as no surprise to anybody that Nintendo, along with the other platform holders, is already thinking of the next generation. Nintendo president Satoru Iwatahas confirmedthat a Wii successor is in production as we speak. Iwata added, however, that current plans aren’t necessarily indicative of what the future may hold for Nintendo’s hardware. “The hardware team started work on the next thing as soon as they were done with their previous project, but what they think up doesn’t necessarily become a product,” explained the Nintendo boss....

Worms 2: Armageddon gets priced right, dated for next week

Informing the massesthrough Facebook(I would’ve preferred Twitter myself), Team 17 has revealed the specifics ofWorms 2: Armageddon‘s Xbox LIVE Arcade debut. It’ll be up on the Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points starting on Wednesday, July 1. While XBLA’s firstWormstitle was a little lacking due to size restrictions at the time, I’m fully inclined to believeArmageddonwill more than make up for its predecessor’s shortcomings, especially at such a lovely price point....

ZEN Studios announces Planet Minigolf, a PSN-exclusive

In a press released distributed this morning, the studio responsible forZen PinballannouncedPlanet Minigolf, a PSN-exclusive downloadable title set to hit at an unmentioned date. As explained in the release, it appears as thoughPlanet Minigolfwon’t stray too far from modern arcade golf conventions: the campaign component will feature cartoony visuals, “unusual hazards,” zany obstacles, “interactive objects,” 144 holes and six customizable characters....

‘First-person,’ not ‘first-party,’ The Conduit looks like a solid Wii exclusive

High Voltage Software’sThe Conduitis a refreshing title. Not necessarily in what it is — a first-person shooter, a narrative involving a government conspiracy and alien technology — but inhowandwhyit is. The Conduitis a Wii-exclusive title, built from the ground up to specifically take advantage of the console’s technology. High Voltage Software had one goal in mind: make the best damned Wii game they could, a game that they wanted to play....

Not long after we got an email detailing the good news, the thread soon reached fifteen or so replies full of praise for the game....

Analyst: PlayStation Phone could do more harm than good

With all the rumors and leaked documents floating around the Internet, a PlayStation Phone announcement seems imminent. A few of us at Destructoid think it’s a ludicrous idea that will try to corner two audiences and appeal to neither, and we’re not alone. Analyst Nick Gibson thinks it’s a poor move, too. “With PSP2 SDKs currently being deployed to developers and PSP still selling at surprisingly robust levels (given the miniscule size of ongoing PSP software sales), the PlayStation Phone concept is something of an enigma,” says the Games Investor analyst....

Blood of Bahamut screens feature a Colossus-looking wolf thing

I still don’t know exactly what the hell is going on in this upcoming Square Enix DS RPG, but I know I want it. I see sprite-y dudes fighting huge polygonal beasts and I’m sold. Apparently the people of this game’s world lived on the backs of these beasts until they woke up one day.Like I said before, it’s looks like a cross betweenFinal FantasyandShadow of the Colossus, and that’s totally cool with me....

Boo! Minecraft getting a scary Halloween update

To be perfectly honest, Ialreadyfind indie darlingMinecraftto be a pretty scary game. Y’see, inMinecraft‘s “Survival” mode, monsters come out at night. Thusly I often spend myMinecraftnights just sitting around in a hole I dug for shelter and then walled up behind me, devoid of coal with which to construct vital torches and jumping at noises, only to dig myself out and beblown the hell up by a Creeper(see the gallery for further elaboration)....
