Amazon is opening up its publishing platform starting this afternoon with the newly-announced Kindle Development Kit. According to the official word, potential publishers will be able to build “active content” and put it on the Kindle — and yes, this includesgames. One of the examples of publishers in the press release is Sonic Boom, who are “building word games and puzzles” using the KDK. EA Mobile is also signed up to do some work with it....

PlayStation 3 fans have been waiting for this for a long time, and today BioWare has finally announced thatMass Effect 2is coming to the Black Box o’ Blu-ray. The announcement was made at EA’s gamescom press conference, and has been confirmed for January 2011. The franchise has been a feather in Microsoft’s cap for a long time, being exclusive to the Xbox 360 on consoles. Now the feather’s been torn in twain, and PS3 fans will get their hands on the hot sci-fi RPG sequel early next year!...

“Chicanery” is truly a word that’s not used enough. Dictionary.com defines it as “trickery or deception by quibbling or sophistry.” And it’s a word Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose recently used when talking about Guitar Hero publisher Activision Blizzard. In a ridiculous4,000-plus-word rant on Guns N’ Roses’ online message boards, Rose calls out Activision for not properly obtaining the rights to use the band’s name in relation toGuitar Hero III....

The removal of OtherOS was one of the most controversial things Sony ever did with the PS3, so some hackers have put it back. Because ofchoice, damn it! According to PS3 hacker andcop-magnetGraf Chokolo, OtherOS++ can “read or write anything” and is “very useful” for HV hacking. It exploits an older Firmware version and allows the user to control the PS3’s memory and systems to a far greater degree than the original OtherOS feature....

Thanks toXbox360Achievements.org, we now know what the achievements forHalo 3will be. You’re probably thinking to yourself, since when did ego-boosting nerd points become news? Since now, I suppose. Some of the achievements include beating campaign mode, collecting skulls, and a bunch of easy multiplayer tasks —they’re all pretty standard, really. The only achievements that stand out in my mind are the meta-game ones, but that’s only because I don’t know what the hell they are....

Ubisoft sent over some new screens for their upcoming first-person shooterHazetoday, and we’d like to share them with you.Hazeis a game that Ubisoft is so steadfastly insisting is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, that we’re inclined to agree with them. I never ended up trying the PC port ofGrand Theft Auto IVsince the console version was more than enough to fill my appetite for open-world debauchery. However, those of you whohaveplayed the game on PC have been extremely vocal about the problems you’ve encountered, and I think all of us can relate in this generation of games where bugs appear as frequently as they do.
