Early-access beta sign-ups open for SpyParty

One of the increasingly popular ways to fund independent game development is to put out an early version with a one-time fee that eventually becomes the final product through updates and revisions.SpyPartywillbe going this route, as announced by designer Chris Hecker. He has opened sign-ups for the paid beta, but urges that only those who are willing to pay the $15 asking price put their email in the running. You won’t have to pay until you get an actual invite, which will be going out “over the next few months....

Electroplankton making a splash on DSiWare (Update)

Finally, a DSiWare “game” that isn’t a clock or a complete load of wanking sh*t.Electroplanktonis a quirky music maker that uses little neon sea creatures to create tunes. It was a really interesting game that sat on my “must get” list for ages, but I never did go and buy it. Now that it’scoming to DSiWareand I still have complimentary points to burn, it’s certainly tempting. Of course, there’s always a catch....

Enjoy a little holiday spirit with 8-Bit Jesus

If you’re anything like me, the holiday season can wear you down. All of the shopping is absolutely exhausting (unless you’re smart and do it online, which I am not) and all the while you are being bombarded by the same Christmas carols over and over again. They’re great songs, but even “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” (the greatest carol ever) can get tired after two months. That’s why I’m so excited about this story....

Exit 2 hits XBLA this Wednesday, we mean it this time

We’re not really sure why, but for some odd reason or anotherExit 2didn’t come out on Xbox LIVE Arcade like it wasoriginally supposed to. In any case, the game is now getting twice as much coverage as it normally would have gotten. Exit 2(800 Microsoft Points) will come packed with 240 different levels, although if it’s anything like the first game, you won’t be seeing a good portion of the later stages....

Famitsu scans reveal images of No More Heroes, Ninja Gaiden DS, more

This threadover at NeoGAF — the Internet’s answer to the idea that I might ever actually have to do real research — has a ton of gorgeously scanned pages from the latest issue ofFamitsu. Likethis earlier pieceonResident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, the text is quite illegible to those of us who opted to take Spanish in high school, but the images are still quite pretty. Of greatest interest is the depiction ofNo More Heroes’apparent lawn mowing minigame....

For the uninitiated: This is what MineCraft is about

You really ought to be playingMineCraftright now. Psst: it’sstill availableas a free download. Here’s a video explaining what the game is, exactly, in case you are unwilling to educate yourself on such matters without the aid of a video. It’s an exceptionally unique game, so I can understand why you’d be skeptical — and perhaps even overwhelmed — at first. For whatever reason, the fan video is set up to mimic the trailer forInception, although the music does fit the mood ofMineCraftquite well, surprisingly....

Free App of the Day: Spark It Up

Destructoid reader “Able To Think” tipped me off to this rather cool freebie,Spark It Up. It’s a rhythm game of sorts that takes visual cues fromBoom Boom RocketandLumines, but features from pretty original gameplay. A dragon constantly flies from left to right, freezing rockets in mid-air as he does. The player detonates rockets by tapping or swiping them and has to do so before the dragon passes a second time. Tapping rockets of the same color earns bonus points, as does tapping on the various dragon shapes that appear on-screen....
