Guitar Hero 5 allows for track imports

As gamers we all know that getting up off the couch to change a disc is one of the worst experiences in the world. Back before rhythm games this really only happened for massive RPGs, but now withGuitar HeroandRock Bandif you want to play another song that was featured in a previous game you have to get up and pop in the previous game. Well, actuallyRock Band 2let you import songs fromRock Bandso they’re cool, but I shake my fist angrily atGuitar Hero, especially since Activision has a bajillion different games under the title....

Guitar Hero II goes indie, I realize absolutely nothing makes me happy

For years now I’ve been pushing theGuitar Herodevs to expand their game to include more hip, obscure, indie music and now that they have, I’ve come to realize that my heart is made entirely of dark coal and bent nails. Earlier today Destructoid EiC Nick “Angel Dust” Chester found the following onMajor Nelson’s blog: Title:Guitar Hero II Now of course all of these bands are the antithesis of your “My Chemical Romance”s and your “Fallout Boy”s — at least as far as their bank accounts are concerned — and as such, you’d think they’d get me as hard as a week-old baguette, right?...

Have a grudge against the Virtual Boy? Buy Jack a Wii!

Nothing seems to draw out the masses (and their wallets) like a good ol’ fashioned console murder.Atdestroymyvirtualboy.com, a member of our own internet community, by the name of Jack, is promising to physically assault his Virtual Boy if enough of us pony up the cash to buy him a shiny new Wii. While he actually seems to love this headache inducing abomination of a system, he also loves the idea of having a worldwide group of strangers buy him a brand new console....

Heavenly Sword demo done, coming to PSN … eventually

So I don’t know what you guys were doing last Thursday, but I was playingHeavenly Swordin a dimly lit Sony arcade, tucked beneath Santa Monica’s Le Merigot hotel. Jealous much? Would it make you feel any better if I told you the game was total crap, and I spent most of my time playingSingstarinstead? Sorry, can’t do that —Heavenly Swordis pretty freakin’ sweet. But here’s the good news — the team at Ninja Theory have completed a demo and it’s ready to go, pending Sony’s approval....

Here’s your first look at XCOM

2K Games has released a debut trailer just in time for E3, showing off the controversial newXCOM. Decision is split right across the board for this new title, taking as it does the form of a first-person-shooter as opposed to the unique strategy game everybody remembers. Nevertheless, the current game holds promise if this trailer is anything to go by. Taking a cute fifties aesthetic and a B-movie influence,XCOMis at least very stylistic....

Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’: The Ballad of Bullet Bill

The proof is inthis week’s episode of HAWP. Watch it and take an existential journey through the sad life of this minorMariobaddie. His story is told by Ash through the medium of poetry and many fantastic art contributions from HAWP fans....

Highlights from the Destructoid community 06/22/08

This week’s game room belongs to aborto thefetus. Most notable about his room is his really old TV — so old that it has wood paneling. He has plenty of videogame stuff, but the greatest piece of his geek collection is all the autographs he has gotten from various stars. Check out aborto’s C Blogfor more pictures. Kif gives us some great new activities to do inGTA IV, Rainbowblack shows off his awesome new tattoo, BunnyRabbit2 makes his own Destructoid helmet, and much more happened this past week in the Destructoid community....

How about some more Pac-Man Kart Racing?

Down for a cart racing game featuring Pac-Man? No? Wait, where are you going? Listen, I’m down for any Namco Bandai cart-style games after the past few years of dropping many a quarter into theirMario Kartarcade masterpiece they worked on Nintendo with. Hell, I like that better than any proper console version ofMario Kart. Who knows what thisPac-Man Kart Racingnew Japanese trademark could be, though. It could be a Japanese release of a game we’ve already seen, likeWorld Rally....

If only there were an 8-bit Nyan Cat game by Konami

So. Nyan Cat. There is very little left to be said about Nyan Cat, except that it’s my profound disappointment to inform you that Konami did not, in fact, release a licensed Nyan game in 1988. Not only wouldNyan Cat vs. Tac Naynhave made a fantastic little game (a shmup, perhaps?), but it would have giventhis box art— a mock-up by artist J. R. Baker — an excuse to exist....

Images tease sky dimension for Minecraft

Every time I post aboutMinecraft, I promise myself that it’ll be the last time for a while. “It has to be! You’ll get burned out, self.” But then someone at Mojang does something interesting enough to break my short-lived vow of silence. This time, it’s Markus Perssontweeting abouta sky dimension. He initially came off as frustrated, and it seemed like this was a concept he had merely been tinkering with, but he went on to say: “because PC Gamer made such a big deal of the sky dimension, I guess I’ll have to finish it....

Interview: Inversion game director on gravity & gameplay

While the Namco Bandai PR team weren’t looking, I kidnappedInversiongame director Ricky White so we could do our interview in the wonderful Dubai sun. While Ricky continued along the “I can’t talk about that until E3” line, we did manage to discuss a good number of things. Ricky gave us some background information on the story and spoke a little about the game’s main protagonist; we discussed the difficulties of designing a game where the laws of physics get broken; he explained how gravity will be used to attack and defend; and we finished up with a brief bit on multiplayer and online co-op....
