I think it would be a stretch to say I’m “cautiously optimistic” aboutHouse of the Dead: Overkillfor the Wii. When reports were floating around that a Swedish magazine gave the game a relatively abysmal three out of ten, I didn’t think that wasdue to a printer-smudged “eight.”Mediocrity doesn’t seem unlikely.
But I haven’t played it yet — that will have to wait until next week at New York Comic Con — so I’ll withhold my final judgment. Still, I must admit that it’s kind of hardnotto be excited about this game, a tongue-in-cheek homage to the grindhouse horror flicks and B-movie schlock that I grew up with.
In this first of what I’m sure will be a few behind-the-scenes docs, the guys at Headstrong Games definitely seem like they “get it.” And ifOverkilldoesn’t take itself too seriously, neither will I. I’m just looking to kick back, shoot a few zombies in the face, and have a good time. That’s not too much to ask, really. And I’m hoping that maybeit wasa smudged eight. Because that, you know, happens. Really.
