Nintendo can’t properly estimate its profits. Wah. It’s not their fault, though. The problem is the global financial markets and their fluctuations in currency. This makes things hard for everyone, even those massive Japanese companies that always seem to do well.

“If the Yen, or any currency, changes over one, two or three years, then that is something that we corporations have to deal with,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said to BBC.

“However, if over a week a currency fluctuates by five or ten percent, there has to be something seriously wrong with the economy. From that perspective, we cannot say our [global] economy as a whole has been stabilized and there is uncertainty on how to estimate our profits.

I can make an estimate for you, Iwata. Can’t you just say that you’re doing well? Just say “we’re still rich, and we’ll still be rich next year. As it stands now, Nintendo is still Japan’s third most valuable company.
