It is a common developer tactic to badmouth your last game as you prepare for the sequel, and Guerrilla Games is no exception. Claiming thatKillzone 3will be a more fluid experience, game director Mathijs de Jonge says things will stutter and irritate less thanKillzone 2.

“[While] we were still tweaking and checking framerate, I checked this game back-to-back withKillzone 2and have to say that it plays so much more fluidly,” he tellsEdgemagazine. “Also, the adjustments we made to lean-and-peek — you can actually slide into cover now, vault over, brutally melee your enemies — it feels more fluid, stutters less. There’s fewer points of irritation.”

Guerrilla boss Herman Hulst also boasts that there’ll be practically a new environment for every single level: “We’re going from the Helghast interpretation of jungle to veryKillzone-esque scrapyards, and at the end we go into space. It’s a big departure fromKillzone 2, where the first five levels were all urban settings.”
