There’s no denying that this week was a kickass week for console game releases in Japan. It should come as no surprise that Nintendo’sSuper Smash Bros. Brawlled the pack, managing to move 500,000 copies in one day.
Cubed3was nice enough to pass off this information from aJapanese blogpacked with first-day sales numbers. It turns out thatBrawlis the fastest selling Wii title so far, managing to sell through 80% of its initial stock. A figure of 80% doesn’t quite equal the sell outwe expected, but I’m sure many retail outlets were completely tapped yesterday.
The next best-selling title was Capcom’sDevil May Cry 4for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The PS3 version managed a 60% sell-through of initial stock, moving 140,000 copies, while the Xbox 360 moved 30,000. Almost as popular asDMC4was the new PS2 titleSuzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi, with 105,000 fellow anime/manga fans lining up to grab the game.
I would have loved to had the chance to pick up a copy ofDisgaea 3for the PS3. Too bad it’s in Japanese. The new Nippon Ichi SRPG sold 40,000 copies, half of which were limited edition sets.
Do you think the US can beat that 500,000 number? I think DMC4 will do better than that!
