One of my favorite gamesfor the DS isDaigasso! Band Bros DX, a Japan-only release. My favorite DS game before that? Its predecessor,Daigasso! Band Bros. They’re not really games. They’re more like music-making software in a cute, Nintendo-made package. Those expecting a rhythm -style music game are going to be disappointed, as you’ll get none of the fancy re-recorded music and dead-eyed celebrity 3D models. This sounds like…MIDI. And you’re really using some music theory in the creation modes. The “game” part is kind of silly, actually. Music types will get more joy out of creating the rhythm game stages.

I say all of this to warn you about Nintendo’s spin on the title, which has now been announced for Europe, set to release on May 21st. I’m sure it never came out in the west before because 1) It probably won’t sell that well, and 2) the licensed songs from Japan wouldn’t fly over here anyway.

Speaking of, there’s new licensed songs for the Euro version. “Every Breath You Take?” Or how about “Chariots of Fire.?” Ooh…”Lady Marmalade.”

The charm of the Japanese version was that you could download others’ creations and play them, giving you access to every nerd song ever made, including game tunes.

I’m going to let you loose on Nintendo’s press release, which you’ll find after the jump. You’ll also find the first English language screenshots in the gallery below, mixed with some Japanese ones.
