Assuming Netflix’s library of streamable movies beefs up quite a bit, would you be interested in paying a lower monthly fee for streaming-only access? Don’t get too excited, as there aren’t any concrete plans yet, but it’s looking like a definite possibility.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings proposed the ideawhile speaking with Bloomberg, pointing towards late this year to 2010 as a plausible time frame.
What does this mean for you? Seeing as how more than “one million Xbox 360 users have downloaded Netflix software,” and Hastings believes “a reasonable discount for [streaming-only access] is not inappropriate at all,” it could potentially mean a great deal for those using a 360 to stream video content.
Again, this new pricing model wouldn’t be happening any time soon, if it does happen at all, but it’s interesting to think about. Would you drop getting DVDs from Netflix if it meant a cheaper monthly rate for streaming movie acess only?
