While this trailer doesn’t show any actual gameplay fromGuitar Hero IV, it does reveal quite a bit about the upcoming digital jam session.

For one, as we all knew, it will add drums and vocals to the mix. As Activision put it in the trailer, it’s “TheGuitar Heroexperience … reinvented.” Adding vocals and drums? What a brilliant, new idea. We are shown the new “most realistic drums” in action, and if my eyes don’t deceive me, the guitars look slightly larger and more “authentic.” And the use of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” all but confirms its inclusion in the title.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really interested in playingGuitar Hero IV(calledGuitar Hero: World Tour, according toGameTrailers’ page). Sure, Harmonix beat Activision to the punch withRock Bandand have done an excellent job; it’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the title.

But I called theGuitar Herofranchise dead after playingRock Bandmainly because of the social experience it was able to capture. If Neversoft can pull off a similar vibe, there’s no reason whyGuitar Hero: World Tourwon’t be an absolute blast. But how many “full-sized” instruments do I really need in my house? Will instrument incompatibility absolutely kill this game for you as much as it will for me?
