Oh for f*ck’s sake. It’s like clockwork. A big PS3 exclusive comes along, and the developer pretends that it couldonlybe possible on the PlayStation 3. Right on schedule, here’s product manager Claire Backhouse, claiming thatGod of War IIIcould never appear on any other system ever, because the PS3 is made out of spider’s webs and magic.

“The developers have worked hard to use the power of the PS3 to makeGOW3look amazing and have added features that are only possible with PS3,” says Backhouse, with perfect PR grace.“The dynamic lighting solution employed inGOW IIIis only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs.

“For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera — when using Krato’s sightline — will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust.”

I’m not denying that the PS3 is a powerful system — it’s a heavy duty piece of kit and I respect that. However, I’m still yet to see a game that could “only” be done on the PlayStation 3, and the claims have lost all meaning since almost every exclusive developer seems to say it atleastonce. Is it in their contract or something? Does Sony legally force developers to spout that same bullsh*t at least once?

Killzone 2,Heavy RainandUncharted 2are all games that could “only” be possible on the PlayStation 3. When you see how long and how often these claims have been kept up, it looks just a little bit ridiculous. Give me a bloody break.

Besides, I bet a PC could do all of these games better.
