Talking with Joystiq at GDC, THQ’s executive VP of Core Games Danny Bilson (biggest business card ever) has upgraded the expected release date of the nextRed Factiongame from simply “fiscal 2011” to something a bit more solid — March 2011.
“The new game takes [Red Faction] to a whole new place, it kind of goes back to the oldRed Factionbecause about 80% of it is underground,” he explained. Does this mean we get to create tunnels again? If so, I can certainly dig it. That seemed to be one of the bigger complaints withRF: Guerrilla.
He then goes on to drop the word “structured,” which has me feeling uneasy. Crafting your own outlandish tales in the last installment was the best part of the game, in my opinion. It’s what madeGuerrillaso memorable in a sea of open-world games.
Finally, Bilson comments on why THQ was willing to give away the current game to anyone who boughtDarksiders: “Giving away the stock now, onRed Faction, is getting more people exposed to the IP because we’re going bigger onRed Factionnext time.” Nice answer!
