A new class action suit has been fired at GameStop over allegations of illegal data reaping. Melissa Arechiga has accused the retailer of storing personal information on its customers without their knowledge or permission, because companies need to know where you live before letting you buyVampire Rain.
The suit claims that when you hand your credit card over to GameStop, you’re giving them access to more intelligence than you’d perhaps like. GameStop allegedly helps itself to “additional personal information, including the cardholder’s physical residential address, by pairing the PII (personal identification information) with the cardholder’s name obtained from the credit card.”
The suit may apply to all residents of California, but be careful about fighting GameStop … it knows where you live, after all.
